My father was a single parent. Mom left when I was 10. He raised three kids on his own. We definitely were poor but he pushed education heavy. All of us kids are educated, full ride scholarship to universities but it definitely was tough. If it wasnt for our faith in Jesus, I don't know how. I do think trauma also affects sleep. I've struggled with sleep but working towards it to improve my work in the gym. Sleep hygiene is critical not just for working out but for working through trauma and healing. I absolutely appreciate this channel!

Night terrors. I thought I'd add me two cents. Two of my kids had these, my oldest was really bad. What we found that helped was waking him up before he had an episode. Usually he had them about the same time of night, 10:30-11. We'de go in a few minutes before the usual time and just wake him a little. He'd fall right back to sleep & it broke the cycle. It took probably around two weeks of doing this but they stopped. I think it was our doctor that suggested this but it's been 15 yrs ago now. Anyway I've been listening for a few months now and I love the show. Great info & the conversation about fatherhood/ parenting & relationships with your wives is great. It's a conversation that most people don't have even with friends.

Totally agree on sleep being the biggest and strongest pillar for health. What we should emphasise here too, is that with great or better sleep - your ability to train harder and better improves too.

This makes total sense. Imagine getting a great workout and perfect diet in on Monday, but then that night you only get 3 hours of sleep. You're going to feel like shit on Tuesday. Now swap any of the other variables, but you slept 9 hours that night. You'll probably feel much better than when you had that poor night's rest.

As someone with an autoimmune disease (lupus) if I don't get a good nights rest I feel as though I have the flu and it takes days to recover. Sleep is so important especially if I plan to work out the following day.

Question #4 I eat a lot of nuts and seeds to get my calories in. Peanuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pumpkin seeds, flax, chia and hemp hearts are excellent sources of healthy fats and protein. I also eat eggs and avocado nearly every day. Sardines are a great fatty fish that I personally love the taste of. I make my own version of what I call "healthy creamed spinach" and microwave a bag of $1 frozen spinach that I get at Walmart and put sour cream and heavy whipping cream on it 😋 You can also add a tablespoon or two of MCT oil to your coffee and blend it.

U guys mentioned being jealous of mothers, but I'm a little jealous of fathers. U guys get to be the hero and affirm ur child(ren) of their purpose and who they are. And no matter how connected mothers are, fathers complete who they are and who they become. And I absolutely love it...I think it's amazing. And u guys seem like 3 awesone fathers. Keep up the great work. Also, I suffer terribly with insomnia and started taking meds, at the instruction of my doctor, because I was gaining weight in spite of a clean diet and working out daily. It's still a problem and I can definitely tell it takes a toll on my workouts and my body. But as long as I can get 4 hours, I'm ok, and I have to take Ambien to get those 4 hours. I'm going to try the gold juice because I want to get off the Ambien soon. Sorry for long post.

Thanks for another awesome episode. Sleep is constantly where I fail. Going to get a sleep titration study (already did a home study) in 2 months. I have like 30% sleep efficiency, 80 apnea 'events' per hour, etc. Sp02 drops to like 60% while I am sleeping. So stress/cortisol levels are high, my recovery sucks, fat/weight retention is high, I'm always exhausted and out of energy. Thanks for focusing on sleep!

On the last day of the 75 hard challenge today. Biggest lesson learned was the value of sleep. I could absolutely hammer my body and feel like I over did it by the end of the day, get a good nights sleep and still feel amazing and ready to do it again the next time. Other days I would do 2 light workouts trying to take it easy and if my sleep was bad I would feel like garbage the next day. Following a sleep routine is going to be one of my power tasks for Phase 1. Also, need to shout out my bf who is the most amazing father I’ve ever personally met. Not only is he super involved and the primary caretaker of his own son, but he also has full custody of his nephew. He gives his all to give them an amazing life.

Suffering from PTSD, sleep is a big problem 5 out off 7 nights I have nightmares the other nights are vivid dreams. I try exercise 3/ 4 times a week , walk 3+ a week. When I a training and walking regularly it helps a lot , if I get into a rut and miss a week or two. Pulling my self out of that is extremely difficult and sometimes I think fck this for a battle time give up, fortunately I haven't attempted it in 10 years. I have 4 Grandchildren I live for. I am 63. P.s love your shows

One thing I will say is that everyone is different when it comes to sleep demands. For me, I actually feel the best on 5-6hrs and more makes me drag/feel groggy. Occasionally, 2-3x per month, I'll have a random day where my body wants me to nap. So I log an extra 4-5hrs when need be. But I do really well overall on a solid 5-6hrs per night. I wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go. Then I'll hit some jump rope for 20-30 min to start my day and lift full body 3x per week in the afternoon. 👍

Sleep is tough to come by, very most. By the way, I have a freind that was raised by his dad. His dad paid a very tough female lawyer to make sure he kept his kids and the house. He won. He is honestly the only dad i know that got to win that battle here in NJ.... this includes myself. He did a great job as a dad. Wish the laws on divorce would balance out better, this is ridiculous.

For anyone struggling with sleep and looking for a good combo: The Organifi God mixed with plain LMNT. Really great sleep combo, especially because drinking something close to bedtime can get the bladder going but the LMNT really helps with the sodium content to keep some comfortable retention and such.

Adam, it is studied that when you smoke weed the REM phase is blocked and the brain retains all the REM phases not experienced. Once you quit smoke the brain must recuperate all the REM phases you have skipped during the smoking time that's why you are dreaming a lot now! CBD does not cause this effect, that's why is more favorable for the seek of sleep improvement. 🙂

if the mother has a crazy connection to the child howcome growing up without a father is more detrimental and impactful to a child? i saw a post where it said “if the mother’s role is to nurture and the father’s is to provide when the mother steps into the provider role her nurturing side diminishes causing the child to starve in a different way” at least to a theory i have is that when a mother has to step into that role which often is portrayed as the Superwoman role who can do it all, the child’s emotional needs get neglected something that i think doesn’t get talked about enough. i think men have a different understanding of “i could never replace the mothers place” and mothers tend to try and fill the spot wether it’s intentional or not.
