I really wish we had such gifted coaches here in India. You are amazing, even through this video I can understand what to do. Thanks for so much knowledge, I would pay just for this video.

Thanks for the kind words. I am sure that in the not-too-distant future they'll be coaches like this in India (and I'm sure there are some good coaches in India, the problem is identifying who is a good coach and who isn't). Good luck!

So much explanation and such good cues are hard to find, especially in countries where we don't have a lot of knowledge and meaningful experience and expertise in this field.

Is this how you want to protect your back for dumbell rows as well? This video was very helpful. The gold pants were a bit too shiny, a little distracting but very educational video. Thank you!!! 👍🏼

What are your thoughts on thoracic rounding on deadlift? I saw powerlfters doing it and I tried it on my (conventional) deadlift and it feels way more natural for me... I find it easier to maintain lumbar extension
@BarbellLogic Жыл бұрын
If you do it with lumbar extension, it's okay. Matt has discussed this in the podcast in the past paired with very narrow stance, toes out more.

Is squatting and deadlifting that dangerous? What if I'm not moving the exact way you recommend? I hope I'm not putting myself in danger.
@BarbellLogic4 жыл бұрын
It looks like you're doing a fine job of setting and holding your extension during deadlifts, so I wouldn't worry about it too much :) Keep up the good work!

Do you set it the same way for squats or do you just arch the upper back and brace the abs for squats?
@BarbellLogic3 жыл бұрын
Yes. We say "arch" because people tend to start rounded and saying "arch" gets it flat, so you want a flat back (spine in normal anatomical extension) not a hyperextended back. Because the squat starts in a standing position, it's much easier to start in the right position. 2 points of difficulty (some people round their upper back as they get the bar in the right position, hence "proud chest" ; the other thing is some people round their lower back near the bottom - this often happens if people go way below parallel

What about protracting the scapula, and then squeeze the chest up, I feel that Ive got more tension through my thoracic extension . What’s your take on that ?
@BarbellLogic4 жыл бұрын
We cover the difference between shoulder retraction and thoracic extension in the video - they're not the same thing even though *some* thoracic extension usually comes with shoulder retraction. It's best to work on thoracic extension using the tips and cues we showed here.

If you are in extension, does that inherently mean there is some level of anterior pelvic tilt? And if so, is that alright? This is something I feel like I’ve gotten conflicting opinions on, with some saying your pelvis should be tucked slightly under at the beginning of the dead lift, but then how are you suppose to be in extension in the lumbar spine?
@aavila12064 жыл бұрын
