I bought a blood glucose meter at walmart along with the replacement stips as needed. Far less expensive than buying the blood glucose strips from Keto Mojo. I use the Keto Mojo for measuring ketones. Less hassle using two meters. I measure a lot for N=1 and N=2 testing with my wife. I have lots of data. Dr Boz, your GKI was excellent! Right where I want to be. Not always easy!

Good morning, Dr.Bozworth. I am 62 years old and started your Keto advice 5 months ago when I was 285 pounds at 6 foot tall. I eliminated 100 percent of sugars and processed foods and intake no more than 20 grams of carbs per day, I also Intermittent fast every day and change my times to trick my body. I also walk, ride my e-bike and do resistance training at the gym. Here are my results; Todays weight is 234.2, completely off of blood pressure meds (been taking for 10 years). I take ZERO medications and feel so much better. Here's my issue, I am still chronically Insulant resistant, and my morning blood value is still between 100 and 110, mid-day before my first meal it will have dropped below 100 so I believe, my body is working correctly, also 2 hours after eating it is in the acceptable range of below 140. My takeaway is that I will be needing to keep this up for years because of my decades of eating poorly. One last thing DR. is that I am also focusing on my liver to detoxify and get rid of any potential of a fatty liver. Thank you for saving my life!

As a T2D, my insurance company let's me join Virta for free. I get all those supplies and 2 blood tests per year and a scale. It was tough to join Virta because I was already low carb (only meds are gabapentin and lowest dose statin) with an a1c of 5.6. Virta didn't believe I was T2D so I had to find my records from 3 years before when I was diagnosed. Even though I still use a Freestyle libre 3, I have to poke daily for Virta with the Ketomojo.

Here's my results: AM fasting glucose 81, ketones 2.4. Urine ketones dark purple. Doesn't this mean I'm not even remotely fat-adapted? Just hypoglycemic? I feel really good though. Much better than higher protein/lower fat.

Dr Box, I would love you to address the issue of physiological insulin resistant or adaptive glucose sparing. I have been on a keto diet for several years but for the past 2 years my fasting blood glucose has been higher and then higher during the day. Despite having a low carb dinner, for instance, my fasting blood sugar this morning was 90 and ketones were 2.2. Doctors and researchers on KZbin acknowledge that this is a problem but don't tell me what to do about it. My fasting insulin is 3. Do I have a higher carb meal ( I am well under 10 grams of total carbs a day) once a week to slap my pancreas into producing more insulin since it seems to be sleeping on the job? Your thoughts on a solution would be greatly appreciated. I've been in remission from hormone positive breast cancer for 16 years and want to stay that way.

I have no idea what I am reading. I am 58 Spanish woman been carnivore for 236 days today. I did take my migraine pill this morning at 3am and I wanted to to start this Keto mojo. I can’t believe anyone can survive on 20 carbs per day. I went on the keto diet in ‘21 in preparation for a 1 week candida detox program. With Covid taking off I didn’t think it was safe to stress my body with that program so that didn’t happen. But In to weeks I went from 175 lbs to 155 lbs. I was carefully charting and counting my carb consumption. I was holding at about 75 per day. I was shooting for 50. I had been on that diet for about 4 weeks total. The weight loss was frightening. None of my clothes fit. I have been a vegetarian for 40 years (fish only) but ignored my carb consumption. Occasionally I would have a “suger spike”, would get sweaty, shakey, and somewhat disoriented. Maybe once or twice a year. Didn’t concern the Dr. though. All my labs were normal. So I decided to try the carb reduction (keto diet). When I finally told my Dr. about the diet he told me that 50 per day was too low. I am thinking 20 carbs per day would be suicidal for me. 77 yo male here. I am no longer counting carbs but always checking the labels for added sugars and excessive carbs. 20 carbs ??

Was watching a old video and you discuss eating closer to sunrise in order to have a lower glucose in am. Did you mean, eat as soon as you rise? Or, eat later in the day to shorten the time between last meal and sunrise? Confused because you were talking both. 😊

The ideal scenario is to eat earlier in the morning for optimal results and end your eating window at least three hours before bed (because your body is slowing down and will focus on cleanup and repair overnight). Doctors and experts don’t put too much emphasis on this though because they know it can be hard in practice.

Hi Doc. If you’re familiar with Ketone-IQ drinks, could you give your opinion of them? I can’t tolerate caffeine. It just makes me anxious, without delivering any energy. I bought some of the Ketone-IQ drinks and they actually give me a nice clean bit of energy without any side effects. I’m just wondering if I’m setting myself up for problems later by introducing exogenous ketones. Thanks!

I am living outside of the USA and use "urine ketones strips" rather than a machine. I know its not as accurate but my only alternative. But I still get MUCH higher mmol numbers after doing the conversion into mmol. In fact I am often (after 40 hours of water only fasting) getting 60 mg or 5.9 mmol of ketones. Is this a correct conversion? Do I have the correct conversion chart? Is the conversion different when using glucose or urine ketones. I love your videos. Keep up your inspiring work.

I eat only 30g of carbs from veggies each day. Rest is 175g Protein and about 190 of fat and still am not in ketosis on a regular basis. Really not sure what I’m doing wrong. Should I eliminate veggies? Go straight carnivore?

How long do you go between meals in a feeding window? You might need to extend that a few hours. 30g may or may not be low enough.

@@danesovic7585 Says who? The recommendation is to eat approx 1 gr of Protein for every lb of "Ideal" weight. So an ideal weight person at 175 lbs need to eat 175 gr of protein daily.

Thanks for the great information, you are the best! I haven't eaten sugar for 3 months now and have even been eating carnevore for 1 month now. So I eat around 800 grams of meat per day. Sometimes a little cheese or eggs. Now I measured what ketosis looks like and I was surprised. At the first measurement (2 hours after a meal) I only had a value of 0.3 mmol/L. And that with 0.0 carbs that I consume. My GKI value is also only around 6 - 7. Can you explain that? Is it too much protein from the meat that leads to these low values? My strips don't absorb the blood like they should and so have to always open another one. prick finger again. I have wasted so many i don't think I will use this anymore. I never had problems with the ones that came in the tube.

@@jsbrecovered9496you need to do 4 to 1 fat to protein. Or if you can do it, 3 to 1. You’re not in Ketosis bc of how much protein you’re eating. People with a ton of muscle can eat way more protein and stay in ketosis. But it’s not easy for most people.

I used the same lancet, and my finger got infected. Over a few days It got swollen and hurt like hell. Had to go to the hospital a week later to save my finger. Telling people you can use the same lancet is bad advice.

I live in Germany. I buy blood sugar test strips on eBay. The price for 50 pieces is around 15 EUR (US$ 16.70). Test strips for ketones are very hard to find and usually a package of 10 pieces costs around 25 to 30 EUR.

I am following something close to a keto diet, and after a longish, cardio zone 2, bike ride at the gym I noticed I developed a distinct ammonia-like smell. When I looked that up online, it said it's what happens when your body is burning protein as a fuel. It sounds unhealthy. Should I eat more carbs before a workout? Do I need to bike even slower to burn fat instead of protein? (Already, i am only riding with a heart rate of 95, but maybe that is still too high for me???) Secondarily, I worry about maintaining ketosis when I already don't have much fat to lose. I am six feet tall with a wiry, lean build at 163 pounds. I still have a bit of fat I can lose, but if I lose a few more pounds there won't be much excess fat left. Is there a point where I should be careful about being in ketosis?

My ratio 1-2 hours after rising ( fasting 13-14 hrs) is usually 70-100.. even on sardine fast. 1 hour After my mct coffee it goes below 50 and keeps going lower all day. Is this ok? Carbs ar 10-20 grams, fat 75-80%, rest is protein. Still tired all the time.

The Accu-Chek FastClix is a superior lancet. It takes replacable a drum of 6 needles and I get at least 18 pin pricks out of one drum. The depth is also adjustable. I also like the Freestyle Optimum Neo meter that takes BG and Keytone strips. I am suprised to find a lot of people are using single needle lancets which are so primitive compared to the Accu-chek lancet drum fed.

Great question,My doctor told me it’s different for everyone. The best way to check is to test yourself in the morning on an empty stomach and test yourself again after you drink the coffee. You know for sure using this method

Question doc.. im on amlodipine 5 mil twice a day . But it seems like alot of things interact with it..I cant take multivitamin, cant have minerals, cant take vit k2 or potassium... But I'm on the carnivore diet and red meat has potassium in fact so does greens so what the hec am I suppose to eat in this stupid medicine.. Im scared if I have too much potassium this wont be good with my cario health.. am I ok on carnivore.. I eat 2 meals a day 3 bacon 4 eggs then around 5-6pm a steak with butter or fish or ground meat.
