0:00 - What is normal 5:26 - What causes high blood sugar (Food Intake) 13:56 - What causes high blood sugar (Insulin Resistance) 17:42 - It takes a long time to break it 22:23- How to lower blood sugar Resuming, If you're insulin resistant, don't eat carbs that don't come from leafy greens and such (mostly water and micronutrients, almost no carbs), fats raises glucose the least, protein also doesn't raise it nearly as much as carbs, but it's more than fat, so eat more fat, less carbs and enough protein but not too much, if its too much and your body doesn't have any more use to it, it'll become glucose just like a carbohydrate would. Fasting for at least 12-16h per day helps a lot, but the optimal is OMAD, since you'll only spike insulin once a day. The worst thing you can do is to have a lot of spaced meals, it will only make you hungrier and increase your cravings for junk food, since your insulin will rise everytime you eat something. It is not a quick fix, but it is sure to help your body to work as it should so you won't have as many health complications down the line. Exercise is good, just don't over do it. Go to the gym, work your muscles to failure, walk as much as you want, that won't be an issue, but don't try to heal your body through intense cardio sessions, if anything it'll make your problem worse.

The only problem I have with this diet is that I'm losing weight and from most people that's a plus but I don't want to lose weight cuz I'm losing muscle weight. And not being hungry means I'm not eating enough calories in a day. So I've dropped from 215 lb to 201 lb in about 2 months or so. And if you don't have a look to let you know diet or at least me, you could end up in the hospital with the ridiculously insane headache and vertigo. The doctors gave me an IV and after an hour and a half my blood pressure drops from 106 over 164 down to 115 over 75. Another typical person but that was what happened to me and they measured my ketones in my urine and it was 20 lol

I’ve been intensely working on being pre diabetic. Didn’t have a sweet tooth but ate a lot of starches as food fillers . Now my carbs are practically obsolete. I started the new way of eating real food once I learned that I had to starve cancer. I learned from you how carbs/starches feed cancer . Can I ask where your fasting glucose was when you started and where it is now, if you know and are willing to share? Congratulations on the improvements. I’m a pharmacist consulting in geriatrics and it kills me to write recommendations to increase diabetic medication in so many patients when I know that dietary (and physical exercise) routines could be changed and would lead to a better outcome if compliance wasn’t an issue.

@1brunner699 My fasting blood sugar was around 177. It came down to 130. I was expecting better results but I must be very insulin resistant. A1C went from 8 to 7.3 in 6 months. I will have another A1C in July 2023. Note I do take 500MG of Metformin for years but my blood sugar never decreased but stabilized at 6.7 A1C for years. Last fall Oct 2022 my A1C increased to 8 so my doctor wanted me to double metformin to twice a day and also prescribed Ozempic 0.5. I did diet instead and got down to 7.3 I do need to lose a lot of weight which is why doc prescribed ozempic but I will hold off for now. I have occasional digestive issues and don't want to make it worst.

I found that not eating lowers my blood sugar to about 80 in about two days. Of course I usually only eat less than two meals a day on average and have cut out my favorite foods which are pizza and cheese cake. One-eighth of a cheese cake raises my blood sugar to about 200 for hours. So, I'm definitely insulin resistant. Instead of salty potato chips I now eat a handful of mostly unsalted nuts. Even two cups of coffee a day makes me want to eat more, and makes me feel sickly most of the time. So I have to abstain from coffee for weeks at a time. I know the coffee industry says it won't hurt me, but what do they know? I'm a young 77 years old.

You can live without any blood sugar. There's a documented case of a person who Fasted for many weeks (I think 7 weeks). With a blood glucose of 1 , they injected him with insulin. His glucose went to zero, but he had no symptoms of hypoglycemia . They then re-measured his ketones , to see the ketones decreased slightly .They think the decrease was because his brain had been using some glucose before the insulin injection. With zero glucose , after insulin, his brain then used ketones instead .Thus , the ketone level reduction.

I pretty much understood how the whole blood sugar thing worked but you have put it in such a simple and concise video that is so simple to understand. I will now pass this on to people in my circle who really need help and when I mention things they should not be eating the just look at me like why??? They just think popping another metformin will cure all. Hoping this can help a lot of people. You have a great way of explaining things in layman terms. My limited research tells me blood sugar is the root cause of most all of societies ailments and must be addressed for optimum health. Why don’t more doctors address the nutrition issue with patients???

No sugar for a year... Non-fasting glucose was 100, now it's 87 (non-fasting). 🎉 AND I'm not hungry all the time like I used to be! 😃 ANSWER to people asking questions: I was on an anti-inflammatory diet (paleo) because I had fibromyalgia for about 15 yrs. That's gone! Then I decided to follow a modified keto diet. It's been a year now. I eat keto foods but I don't do the proportions, so I guess it's not true keto...yet. I no longer eat grains, sugar, legumes, processed foods, and I do have organic whenever possible. I do give in with dairy... and I have meats, veggies, and for fruits I have berries. I have high fat foods. My weight is pretty steady because I'm not doing proprtions of carbs, fats, protiens. Actually, I have gradually lost 15 lbs over the last year. Here's what keeps me sane... I have a day during the week when I can have whatever I want. I'm finding over time though that those days are getting healthier as I go along because my food cravings have definitely changed. 🤔 I don't know if my cholesterol will be ok or not because I'm not doing the proportions yet. I am doing high fat. I was pleasantly surprised when my blood sugar (non-fasting) dropped from 100 (always steady previously) down to 87. 🤔 💭 BONUS: For the first time in my life, I'm not starving in between meals!! Thats huge. I take advantage of that and don't eat in between meals. I do have coffee ☕ with cream twice a day too. My body's food cravings really did change over time.

Such a great video at summarizing glucose and insulin resistance and how they’re impacted by what we eat! I had started a no-sugar May, and it wasn’t going very well, as I ended up eating sugar 5/2 and 5/3. Yesterday was my first sugar-free day, and this video is exactly what I needed! Thank you, Doctor Ekberg! 💗🙏🏻💗

Zara - Good job on your first day with no sugar at all. What we did was get it out of the house ( and keep it out ), cause we can’t eat what’s not available. Hardest part for most, including us, to remember is that Carb’s turn right into sugar as well ! Yikes. Anyway, all bread, cereal etc,… out the door ! AND, as we just heard the Dr. Say,… even too much protein turns to glucose as well. Soooo,… more exercise (light) and LOTs of non-starchy vegi’s for us. Watch it though on the leafy greens. Many of them are VERY high in oxilates , ( spinach is off there chart ) cause too much will cause/worsen gout and arthritis mainly for those of us that are a bit older. The book I’m reading, “ Complete Idiot’s Guide Anti-Inflammation Cookbook “ talks about having 3 servings of vegi’s at each meal. And to kept/learn many different recipes on how to make the vegi’s so you don’t get board/sick of them. Doing this is a commitment to yourself, but you’re worth it. Am also working on accepting the idea, I won’t be eating out much anymore, aside from “salad & go “ ( here in Phoenix ), which I’ve gone to for a number of years now. **** ( PS, I need to check what Thomas DeLauer would say about not doing intense exercise, since it raises cortisol levels, as the Dr. just mentioned in this vid. Interesting to learn and fit these pieces all together. Good luck all. ) ****

Seed and bean oils are the main cause of insulin resistance because it directly destroys mitochondria. Excessive fructose and sugar also are also negative as Sten says.
