It gives me great pleasure and is genuinely a privilege to put together and present to you my very first, KEIRIN ridden, NJS, Level, Track Bike.
I am a big Bike enthusiast and would love to learn how to build bike frames, if anyone knows of workshops/scholarships taking place in 2023, please feel free to reach out to me.
Owning this frameset inspired me to learn more about the Japanese culture, more specifically, the Zen philosophy.
- Nihon Jitensha Shinkōkai -
NJS truly embodies the Zen culture of Japan, where there is a right way of doing everything and within this pure simplicity of doing things the RIGHT way, the way it was intended to be done, we are gifted with BICYCLE PERFECTION. Artwork if you will.

To quote my dear friend Katja; “I understand it now, I see this bike and understand everything which it represents. It is perfection.”
And yes, this build does not follow the NJS philosophy, because of the Italian parts I used, but in time I hope to acquire all NJS parts to complete this build and keep it true to the NJS standard.

some comments and I know I'm picky: 6:16: as far as I have mounted numbers of bottom brackets (shimano and campagnolo): the non-drive side cup should go all the way in. If it doesn't, it could be blocked by something. Best is to screw it in almost all the way, then screw in the drive side all the way, then do the last bit of the non-drive side. So you know the non-drive side cup is going over the drive side bearing. 6:51: I hope you applied some mounting paste on the interface between crank and axle? If not, your steel axle and alu crank will bind. great frame by the way; I'm still looking for any NJS frame for a half-decent price in my size 54...

i hope you have fun with the bike but i can´t keep myself from pointing out that the quality of the components is a few steps below ¨njs level¨.

So right you are!👌 I knew this going in, but didn't have the funds to build this bike to the NJS standard it deserves. This has changed though. Please check my other videos to see the updates👍

Hectic bike, and awesome build to watch mate. Just some things I noticed that I thought I might point out as constructive criticism, purely from a caring place, hoping that it may help you. First, you use soooo much grease my man. When you have the right amount of grease there is very little between the two metal surfaces (only a couple of microns!!). A little goes a looong way, and you used some excessive amounts. Good job with making sure you actually did use grease though. I commonly find bikes with non-greased parts welded together by galvanic corrosion. Second, always use proper good quality hex/allen keys. Multi tools are usually not machined to the same tolerances as quality dedicated hex/allen tools. Get a nice set of proper hex keys, your bike deserves it😊 Lastly, when installing your inner tubes, pump your tubes up just enough to give it some shape, this will make it much easier to install into the tyre and rim, and also help prevent pinched tubes if you use tyre levers at any point. Beautiful bike, I am very stoked to see a beautiful NJS frame built and used. Awesome stuff, and I hope you are still riding the Level as much as possible! Cheers for sharing your build😊

Hey man, I had some bad experiences in the past with removing old bottom brackets. These experiences are so deeply fixed into my memory that I over grease everything🤣

Yeah I will for sure get some better tools with time. Still a student so money is tight. I thought maybe through KZbin I can better fund this hobby I have. Still a long way to go though.

@@BicyclesbyJurgen It looks you installed a 73mm BB in a 68mm frame, not a big deal, but it will make your drivetrain slightly asymmertical. you can add a 2 or 3mm spacer to the drive side if you want to correct for this without having to get a new BB

Whats that thing at 1:35 for? What does it do?
@BicyclesbyJurgen
@BicyclesbyJurgen 15 күн бұрын
This is a headset press. It ensures that the headset cups are kept straight when you install them. If you use a hammer to knock the cups in, you run the risk of installing them off centre. Damaging the headset and damaging the frame.
