I really enjoy seeing someone take old things and make them look like new again! I have an old late 70's Trek that I'd like to upgrade. But, it seems so expensive. I think I'll just give it a good clean up, grease all the bearings, and just ride it like it is.... or was...

It's an absolute different feel of riding. It may be disadvantage for some conditions. But the overall feeling more than makes up for it. Try it, you may not want to go back to freewheeling. I first bought one with a flip flop rear hub, in case I didn't like it at least I'd have a regular single speed, I never put it to freewheel after riding fixed!

How did you fix the chain line? I've essentially done the same thing on a road bike I found in the trash pile. I got the chain line ok by sliding the back wheel over to the right a bit, but now it is off center. It rides fine, but ultimately I'd need to redish the back wheel, which I really don't want to do. Or leave it and get a much longer back axle.
@DonylynKnives3 жыл бұрын
You need a narrower bottom bracket. I got one that was like, 8mm shorter than the one that was on there. It essentially brings the crank arms closer together, because you don't need that extra room for all those gears.
@DonylynKnives3 жыл бұрын
They're pretty simple to replace but you'll probably need a couple specialty tools for it depending on what type of crank arms/ bottom bracket you currently have. Oh and I think I paid about $10 for this one.

Nice job on the video! I would not have made other choices than you did. I would have gone with low pro wheels 36h because I am beefy like you. I would have gone with Promax side pull brake set. Surly makes stainless steel chainrings that would give it a visually less massive look.

I have 38 year old bianchi road bike, the tires keep going low no matter what I do, and it creeks, a lot. I think I will convert it, it still has a nice paint job, if I convert it will it lose value?
@DonylynKnives4 жыл бұрын
If it's overall in REALLY good condition it may be worth something, otherwise these old road bikes are a dime a dozen (with a few exceptions obviously). You could look up your bike on 'Bicycle Blue Book' to get a general idea of it's worth. Also, you could always just put the parts back on it later if you wanted to convert it back 😅
@d4nkm4st44 жыл бұрын
@@DonylynKnives I think I'll convert it and keep the parts, the frame is in great condition but the parts themselves like the breaks and crankset deserve retirement haha, will probably do a wall decor with them 🤣

@@DonylynKnives The only downside with those cheap cranks is the front large chain ring will bend and start to wobble. At least in my experience. I had a couple pair of Lasco that did this. Better off with some FSA jammies for a few more bucks 👍 Nice restore btw
