Nice catch! Let the design team at the manufacturer know.

Troubleshooting is not in everyone's wheelhouse. Sometimes, like you said, you just have to look at everything as neing wrong and eliminate as you go. Having the right tools, and understanding how to use them makes our life good. Great find!

Nice work Joe. Those unusual repeat problems sometimes just require a guy willing to try a few things out of the ordinary, and not just giving up. 👍🏻👍🏻

This is from an install manual for a similar unit, since I could not find the model number of your unit I just went on their website and used an out of production model. "The grille side of the unit may be flush with, or extend beyond, the face of the exterior wall, but should not be recessed more than 2” from the face of the building and should not be obstructed with trees, landscape materials, or building structure." It is hard to tell if that unit is installed like the above, but maybe it is recirculating the flue into the combustion air.

The fact he know about the planter That's a good job.. I know feeders made some of these. Several apartment complex's around me use them

Sometimes the heat exchanger is replaceable through several different BTU ratings…just doesn’t use some of the burners or the whole heat exchanger…the heat exchanger you had most likely was for a smaller BTU rated furnace

Let us know how you make out at the supplier , also curious to know what the complex does about the other unit with the high CO levels ?

"Here's your stubby" That's what she said...lol. That was a tricky one, glad you finally got it figured out. Those furnaces seem like a crap design anyway. Excellent work as usual.

Hi, I may not be following this correctly but I’m not sure where you are checking for co2? I saw a concentric about you and assuming it’s a 90+ condensing furnace. Never worked on this type of unit. Exhaust just coming out of inducer or what? Sorry I may very misinformed. I understand the restrictor plate…Sorry to ask. Never saw it connected to a flue pipe….just not following very well.. thanks

The pressure switch shouldn’t but stayed closed with a big restriction of the inducer motor plate. A safety device that doesn’t provide safety. 😢
