What do you guys think of the vlog style in this video? Do you enjoy the "cinematic" style better?

Back on the road, great to see Derek ✌️ When oil is in your cooling fluid, thats always a bad sign 😂 With 5w40 the oil temps will be a bit lower too. Better for stop an go, hot summer days and flooring the pedal to the metal 🤣 Dnt know if Korea has hard winter times. Some people swear at low temps outside changing from 5w to 0w (the oil will be faster where needed, especially at the timing chain tensioner / chain itself). Here in Europe I think its exaggerated, bt want to mention it. The most important thing is to change oli every year (for me 12-15k). The 2.0 EA888 engine is the most efficent and stable unit in the VW group. Have fun with your new baby 🎉

Can’t thank you enough, these tips are gold!! We do have very cold winters here in Korea so I will keep the 0w in mind. Now that I’m learning about engine oils I want to try Motul’s 300V, but that means shorter oil change periods. What are you using at the moment?

In my 2019/2020 G7 TCR I use Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 (5w30 because of still having warranty, and VW only allows this or 0w30). One of the best 5w30 U can get here. It has great longlife capacy (VW 504/507) an works also fantastic in short using terms with a modern pack of additives. Yesterday I flew over the Autobahn up to 240 kmh (faster not possible bc of lots of cars on it - goes stock with vmax open up to 280 😂) and the oil temp was about 102 ° Celsius. Also in hot days it never goes far over these. Im very happy with it, and its in since the car was nearly new. Swapped to it after 2000 km. Engine oil has an important effect like other car parts on efficency and lifetime of our beloved cars, so better dnt save money on that 😁 Motul makes really good fluids i guess (heard many good about it). Also FUCHS, RAVENOL, MOBIL 1 and the SHELL Helix oils. Dnt know if you can purchase any of these brands in Korea. The winters are also mild in Germany, 5 days a week only driving gently to work, so for me it is fine to stay the hole year until regular change to the M1 5w30 + Aral Ultimate 102 Oktane premium gas (regrettably expensive bc of taxes here 😅😄). When you drive a lot of short distances, and the oil can often get not warm enough (min. 80 ° Grad) better swap earlier. What ist the planned change peroid now (what the Garage told you about the new 5w40)? I think 10 to 12K Kilometer is the way, latest one time a year 👍

@@derekuhm I think if you not gonna use it for racing purposes better stay away for Motul 300V, particals will breakdown faster than you can use.
@vVTiMoVv Жыл бұрын
@@malantra5730 right, better stay away from the racing oils, not useful in my opinion too. The additive package is for sure different to performance fluids for "daily use" 🙂 I think (if Motul is the brand you want) the 8100 X-Clean, 8100 X-Cess (VW 502/505) are the way to go. From the X-Clean I found at my dealer a Gen2 version. It has the spec VW 51100, that is for the strongest direct injection engines in the VW group. Sounds like a bit "over the top" for me too 😂😂😂 @Derek In the past I asked in our TCR community for recommendations. Ur dealer can help you out here for sure with their experience.

Awesome to see the GTI back again. I definitely know the feeling of waiting for your car to get fixed, really makes you appreciate it more as well as the the sudden desire to drive it a bit harder than usual once you get it back haha. How long have you owned your GTI? Have you had it since brand new or bought it used? Also, I think both vlog and cinematic styles are great, just depends on the theme or idea you're trying to get across and I think your song choices reflect that as well. Keep up the great work!
@derekuhm Жыл бұрын
It's been about 2.5 months since I bought it used, and I've driven ~7k km in that time. I'm testing out different styles to see what clicks, but like you said it depends on the story. Thanks for your comment!

Hi Derek, great video and good job getting that beauty back on the road, however, oil mixing with the coolant is potentially serious. Did you ask the garage what the likely cause was and what’s to stop it happening again? Keep an eye on your coolant in the meantime and stay cool 😎
@derekuhm Жыл бұрын
Hey! Thank you for your comment. The culprit was worn out oil gaskets. Replaced them and there is no oil leak in the coolant or anywhere else, at least for now. The car has 100 miles on it so I was expecting some maintenance issues when buying it. It really could’ve been serious if I had blindly refilled oil, glad to have caught it. Hopefully no more issues :) happy driving!

Do you wait for your oil to reach operating temp? About 200F in the US (don’t know Celsius). I’ve heard it’s better for the engine to let the oil get up to temp before really accelerating hard (3000+ RPM shifts). Just something to consider to protect the long term life of your engine.
@derekuhm Жыл бұрын
Yes always! But you never know how the previous owner had driven. All I can do is regular maintenance, repairs as needed and good driving habits like you mentioned 🙂

Very Glad to hear she back up and running with what looked like only a small issue. Congrats. I enjoy both styles. Just go with what makes you happy for the theme of the video. Also just curious what’s it cost to wash your car in that previous video. Still think about the underneath jets ;-). Have a great day driving.

Thanks Ryan! So happy to have her back in great condition. For the carwash, I usually pay $20 for 1.5 hours, or $30 for 2 hours. You can choose in 30 min increments. Really appreciate you watching & commenting on my videos!

That is awesome that you got your car back!! Thanks for sharing! I must ask though. Is there any preventative maintenance that could have kept this leak from happening?
@derekuhm Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I guess regularly checking your oil level helps, along with the coolant for any contamination. The mechanic could tell the issue just by looking at the coolant tank without even opening it 😅 But not sure if there is a way to prevent leaks.

How was oil & coolant mixing? Bad oil cooler?
@derekuhm Жыл бұрын
Yes seems like it. Must be pretty common, the mechanic said he had at least 3 of these cases this year alone.
