Good job! Glad you got that one fixed. I fly a Virus here a lot but we did not experience this issue at all.

Good morning bro I am in few days visit to Edmonton & interested to visit you in your hanger.

Glad you got it fixed but it makes no sense. More flow should be less pressure. I have a Virus SW 912is and I also see oil pressure drop some at higher altitudes. Maybe 42 psi at 10K feet and 40 psi at 13K feet.

Darryl, enjoy very much your vids... thank you. I have a Flight Design with a 912iS... same engine. After reviewing this vid, I went back into my panel pics... level flight stuff... around 2,000 - 4,500 feet. My oil PSI in the "middle green" at 60-61 PSI... Who knows if that helps you, but why isn't Rotax taking the lead on your oil issue? Thanks again, Andrew

Rotax has admitted that the pump is undersized for the amount of components on some aircraft, ie hydraulic prop, thermostats. Yeah I never see 60psi at those altitudes. Hopefully Rotax will come out with new radiator and oil tank with larger outlets or adapters to work with larger oil lines to reduce the flow in systems.

Is the modified oil cooler bracket stable? If not, recommend a remanufacture in the optimal configuration.

It's solid, will not move

what category of rights is needed to control the virus?

I don’t know what you mean by category of rights

@@DarrylZubot The Advanced VDS certificate allows you to fly an "advanced" vehicle, accessing controlled airspaces and airports. It is mandatory to have the VDS pilot certificate, the passenger transport license for at least 1 year and the Aeronautical Radio Telephony Certificate. Non PPL

@@DraGon-cg6ge okay. We don’t have to anything labelled vdc or vds in Canada. I don’t know what that stands for and cannot find anything online regarding this. You only need private pilot license in Canada to fly this airplane. We don’t have light sport aircraft category in Canada.

Why would increasing the diameter of an oil line increase oil pressure in that line? That seems counter-intuitive.
@DarrylZubot2 жыл бұрын
Our consensus is that the oil pump is not designed large enough to handle the hydraulic propeller, so as I climb, the prop works harder and therefore the oil pump can't keep up so I lose pressure as I climb. Increasing oil lines and fittings reduces the restrictions in the system therefore reducing the amount the oil pump needs to work to maintain pressure.

That would be true with constant flow as Bernoulli's equation would apply. However, we're talking about the "suction" side of the pump. The first thing to understand is "suction" means pressure difference, that's all it means. The oil tank is open to atmosphere so the pressure difference between the oil tank and the inlet side of the oil pump is what drives oil TO the pump. Liquid flow rate in a pipe is proportional to pressure difference, inversely proportional to pipe length and proportional to the fourth power of the internal diameter (Poiseuille's Law.) So to increase flow in a pipe with a constant pressure difference, increasing the internal diameter of the pipe has the largest effect by far.
