Noticed that too. Kinda looks like it popped

Yeah, we also noticed that during the repair. We did try to see if we could get a replacement just in case we needed to but couldn't find one that fit the size/dimensions required. It does seem the unit is fully functional post repair so we decided it didn't need to be addressed in the end.

Is the aluminium tape conductive on both sides? Did it short out the battery, it looked better before the tape.

The aluminum tape is conductive for sure on the top but I don't know about the bottom and if the adhesive prevents it from being conductive or not. That is a very good question and something I will look into. That is perhaps part of it. But I believe that I should have also probably used more thermal protection from the hot air i used.

Eeek, the battery didn’t look too healthy afterwards. Did you happen to check voltage on it?
