Here's how you can connect your Shure MV7 directly to any camera and get great-sounding audio in your video.
If you don't want the cost and complexity of using XLR, this video will show you how you can connect the Shure MV7 direct to any camera using a simple audio cable.
Works with Canon, Sony and Panasonic cameras.

Thank you, Andrew!! I wish I stumbled on this video earlier. Spent a long time trying figure how to properly connect my MV7 with my Sony ZV-1F. Conducted many different tests, and some didn't even produce any audio lol... I followed your steps of setting gain on both mic and headphones to 6 illuminated dots on MV7 and camera gain down to 4. Seemed to work very well but I think there are still a few minor tweaks to make.

What I've found for myself is that I was trying to connect male to male 3.5mm to my shure MV7, as well as HDMI cable to my PC from my camera to mirror everything i film on the screen. However the sound was awfully buzzzing as some of the guys mentioned here. As soon as I have pulled out the HDMI from my camera, 3.5mm to 3.5mm works like magic. Main thing to reduce camera audio levels to 1 (I have sony a7iii), also I've set mic for 30dB and set my level of output (yellowish colour dots on microphone) to somewhere around the lalf

Great video Andrew, thank you!! Ive just spend hours configuring a Elgato wave 3 to my Sony ZV-E10 and trying to get rid of a "buzzing sound". If only I had found this video earlier. Finally sorted it by reducing the LV on the camera. It would be interesting to see how the Shure MV7 compares to the Elgato wave 3
@CourseBuildersAcademy
@CourseBuildersAcademy Жыл бұрын
The Elgato Wave 3 is a nice mic and will serve you well. As you have found the pre-amps in lower-end cameras ( sub $3k ) are not fit for purpose! Why they don't just fix it and stick $50 on the price of the camera I really don't know. One tip, play with the distance of the mic from your mouth, the closer you get it the better it will sound, but too close and you'll get popping.

Great vídeo, Andrew! What mic are you using to record this video? The sound is just perfect! I'm looking for a microphone that doesn't pick up my air conditioner noise while recording and isn't seen in the frame. Greetings from South America!
@CourseBuildersAcademy
@CourseBuildersAcademy 10 ай бұрын
I'm using a Shotgun mic ( Rode NTG3 ) in this video, but this is unlikely to not pick up your air con, it may very well not pick it up as much as a mic like the Yeti due to the narrow pick-up pattern. If you're recording it's going to be better to use a decent shotgun mic and leave a couple of seconds at the start of each recording where you don't speak and use that to grab a background noise sample and simply remove it in a program like Audacity ( which is free ), or Adobe Audition, there are lots of tutorials on KZbin on this and it's really easy to do.

Can you recommend which cable I need to use to connect the Mic to my Canon? As the cable that comes with the Mic doesn't fit. Any other recommendations welcome.
@CourseBuildersAcademy
@CourseBuildersAcademy 11 күн бұрын
you need a audio cable with a 3.5mm pin on each end. It should be TRS not TRRS like this www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Headphone-Auxiliary-Compatible-Earphone-Silver/dp/B088CZLHGL/ you should also make sure you plug it in the "MIC" input on the camera and not the Headphones socket - easy mistake to make that is

Well I might just have to try this as I’m in the process of transitioning from my webcam to the ZV-e10 and love the sound of my MV7. Just got in the MKE600 today I’m planning to boom overhead but might be able to boom the MV7 instead. So many options, seems there there’s always something else to do 😂😂😂
@CourseBuildersAcademy

The MV7 isn't the ideal choice to boom, but your MKE600 is. If you want to connect an XLR mic directly to your camera without using something like a Zoom H6 I did this video that shows you how: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qn7CenSnhKmkprc in this video I use a Shure SM7b, but this works with the MKE600 also.

Did you noticed buzzing noises in background? I did when connected mic directly into Sony a7 via mini jack. Just wondering if I should connect mic to something like Zoom H6 and later to camera.
@CourseBuildersAcademy
@CourseBuildersAcademy Жыл бұрын
Going XLR to a Zoom H6 is always going to give you better results. And if you do use the Zoom option and then connect the Zoom to your camera via the line out on the Zoom you will have to adjust the line out level. The camera will likely be expecting mic level which is much lower, I cover this in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eovIdoWfg8R_j9E . But before you do that just check the cable, maybe swap the cable out. Looking on the web it seems this is an issue with some Sony cameras, the FX3 really suffers according to the comments. Also, make sure the audio cable isn’t crossing power cables, this can also cause an issue.

I used a shotgun mic the Rode NTG3. The only reason I did't use the MV7 is because personally I don't like the mic in the shot and I move about a bit, a Shotgun is perfect for when you want the mic a little further away and off camera. But from a quality standpoint the MV7 can and does sound just as good as my shotgun mic. I also have sound panels on the walls that I made. Good audio depends not just the mic but the the room you are in and the correct positioning of the mic to your mouth. I have a free guide that covers all this kind of stuff and the equipment I use: bit.ly/3DGNOLw

Hello, Andrew, great content! On the thumbnail for this video it says "PRESS TWICE TO CONNECT" with the little red arrow pointing to a button on the MV7, is this necessary for it to work? My MV7 is connected to my SONY VZ-1 and I was able to use MV7 as an external microphone the first time I stumbled upon your video, I was so excited, but now it's not working anymore. @@CourseBuildersAcademy Solved! I think the MV7 wasn't getting enough wattage, I had it powered on via phone charger, which is strange because it should be enough power for the microphone, since it lit up and I was able to adjust input levels. Anyway, the MV7 is being picked up by the ZV-1 now when connected to my laptop, if anyone is having a similar problem.
