So many people on here saying it’s not strong enough it needs spines. They’ve never repaired a guitar with a neck break because they would know that it’s strong enough with that sort of break.
@random-guitar3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I fixed my SG years ago with a break like that and it’s been fine, and I used no splines. A long, gently sloping break like that is practically like a scarf joint.

Honest question: if the neck was made with a more dense wood like maple, would it still break?

Maple will break. Absolutely. Thanks!

Why it breaks the same place all the time, is the wood poor …

With the string tension the headstock won’t break again? I’ve seen other videos where they do splines on this type of repair.
@harpethguitar2 жыл бұрын
Hello Michael, the string tension alone isn’t enough to break a headstock. Dropping it of course may cause it to break. I’m fixing this for a store. They just want it to look like it never happened. What happens in the future is beyond our control.
@vayabroder729 Жыл бұрын
@@harpethguitarGreat work and the repair is now probably stronger than the neck ever was. Some players even say the guitars sound even better after a headstock repair performed by an expert. I hope the store doesn’t try to hide the fact that a repair has been done.

Q: Why is it necessary to remove the nut off the truss Rod?
@harpethguitar2 жыл бұрын
Probably not necessary to remove it Dave. I would advise that the nut be snug but not over tightened.

Mahogany wood cut to an 18° angle + a truss rod opening at the skinniest point

Mine was repaired by Mike Lull never had splines same break and is still good after 30 years depends on break, this is first repair if this fails then splines are needed on follow up repair. this break has a lot of surface contact and a good candidate for no splines and it will probably last the guitars life, if done well.
