Neat! I can't believe it was the burnt resistor with the hole blown out the side the whole time! Great to see that monitor come to life finally.
@overtimearcade8 ай бұрын
Well, I’m sure the shorted MOSFET and rotten caps didn’t help, but my guess is the bad resistor was triggering the shutdown circuit, so yeah, this was the final straw!

The little vertical daughter cards are notorious for needing to be reflowed, but the 4600 produces a beautiful image when dialed in. And what's funny is, every 4600 that I've got still works without any previous repairs!

that RS iron is an archaic version of the auto pump desoldering tool , a low cost alternative that didn't have quite the umph as its big brother. they still sell them , but if you already have a desoldering tool , its really a step back

This is an accurate assessment IMO. It does the job, although I do indeed wish the bulb had a bit more “oomph.”

Just want to say that there's nothing wrong with using the Hakko or wick. I just like to save my wick for when I really need it since it is a consumable.
@overtimearcade8 ай бұрын
The Hakko and Radio Shack pump also have the advantage over a wick or soldapult of being a one-handed operation.

Why? Solder wick costs next to nothing.

There are replacement tips for the iron as the hole gets larger over time. As the hole gets larger it works better with flybacks. I suppose you could use a small drill to widen the hole slightly.
@overtimearcade8 ай бұрын
Replacement tips, but only the same size? That’s interesting that the hole wears out and gets bigger over time! 😶

where do you find your schematics for these games ? have an older golden tee 2k (1999) regular version
@overtimearcade8 ай бұрын
The two best sources IMO are the ARCade ARChive and the KLOV website... arcarc.xmission.com/ www.arcade-museum.com/manuals Specifically, here are two manual scans for Golden Tee '99 (2K should be basically identical)... arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Arcade_Manuals_and_Schematics/Golden%20Tee%2099-2K-Classic%20Manual.pdf www.arcade-museum.com/manuals-videogames/G/GoldenTee99.man.pdf You'll find the cabinet wiring schematic on page 35. Earlier games often included complete schematics for the boards too in their manuals, but later games like these omitted that kind of detail.
