FYI: Sand that green hood before fiber glassing to rough it up and get better adherence. Sand before welding and it makes your job even easier. Great job sir.

Nice job on that repair. I had to do the same repair on my X324. I backed into it with my ATV and it exploded into about 30 pieces. I was able to locate all of the pieces scattered around my pole barn and proceeded to put them back together like a jigsaw puzzle. I didn't bother with the cosmetic work. I just wanted it all back together. It looks like Frankenstein now, but at least I didn't have to drop $350-$500 for a replacement hood.

lol you know after all these years you’d think companies would make stuff better but they just make things disposable, I like it when machines are made of metal that last

I've got to do the same to my x324. Shame on John Deere for using such sub-par materials in their higher-end X models. I've had a 125 and L130 that are older than my 324 and never had issues with plastics becoming brittle. This thing is coming apart just by looking at it. Luckily I've got 99.9% of the pieces, and it hasn't come completely apart except for one hood support bracket. Thanks for confirming my idea of using fiberglass reinforcement with resin as a somewhat inexpensive way to fix JD's mistake.
@The_Home_Pros Жыл бұрын
you sure you got that right!! I will be having a lot more lawnmower videos coming out soon. I just bought a John Deere for 25 and a John Deere 445.

I wish you could help me. I have a John Deere 855 tractor. The forward and reverse pedals move back and forth freely. They don't come back to neutral, you have to press the opposite pedal to bring the other pedal back to neutral. From what I can tell it's not spring related. Do they move back and forth via hydraulic pressure? Any help would be greatly appreciated
@The_Home_Pros Жыл бұрын
First check all the linkages and make sure they are properly lubricated, next run the front of your tractor up on some ramps. Look up through the hole you will see in the bottom of the transmission case housing. You will see a fork that a bearing rides up and down the side of. The bottom of the V is neutral, you will notice a bearing, if this bearing is not free the transmission will not go back to neutral. This bearing and the pedal linkage of the two biggest causes of pedal trouble.

Very informative and helpful. I need to do similar repairs on my 20+ year old LT166. I do have missing plastic pieces and would like to have advice on how to fill the holes after doing the plastic welds and fiberglass repairs on the underside of the hood. What should I use to fill the void on the topside? Thanks.
@The_Home_Pros2 жыл бұрын
thank u very much!! I had some big holes on mine and I just used fiberglass matting to fill the holes which worked out fine, you will prob have to do it in layers but should work fine, good luck with the repairs!! let me know if u have anymore questions 🙂

What a crappy company John Deere became using totally inappropriate materials that they know will break so easily. Not that I expect anything else from a company that is so incredibly hostile to people's right to repair. Thankfully we have people like this clever chap who find a way to get around the nefarious practices of these greedy companies and keep machines going and out of landfill.
@The_Home_Pros Жыл бұрын
it’s sad but a lot of companies nowadays are the same😔

@@The_Home_Pros Very true - it's become the rule rather than the exception for manufacturers to use parts made with weak materials and to discourage repair. Thanks for replying, I enjoy learning from you and seeing you bring machines back from the dead.
