Hi there from Southern California! Thank you so much for sharing this video. I have a 1982 Honda GL 1100 Aspencade that will need this light duty process done to it. I’m enjoying all the videos you have posted over the years. Awesome job!

Simple little maintenance job to do during the wait for spring riding season. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Perfect timing on this video. My tachometer on my 1982 GL1100 Interstate just stopped working and I had no idea where to look for the cable. Good Job.

Great video. I just installed a new led light in the tach, but first ride the tach started making a horrible grinding noise. I’m going to clean the cable as you did and see if it makes any difference

Sometimes If it's grinding the cable isn't all the way in the tach housing that happened to me as well

Great Video 👍. I truly appreciate these videos since I own the same kind of bike except mine is an '82. Is the movement of your tachometer smoother now?

Yes a lot smoother

Great video👍 My tachometer cable of my GL1100 1983 also wobbles al bit and I was wondering how to fix that. So I'm very happy with your example of how to manage that little problem. Thnx from the Netherlands👊😎 (Could you do a video of cleaning the oil-control glass and make it readable? I know there is a little wiper on the inside which you can turn around with a screwdriver to clean that window, but I'm still not able to read the oil level properly. Tried to find an oil-dipstick but I couldn't find me a reliable one. Do you have a solution for that?)

What do you mean by the cable wobbles? Like the housing is loose or the needle is jumping?. As for the oil sight, I would recommend either changing the oil more frequently or using a high quality oil to see if that resolves it. Make sure the bike is on the center stand when checking. You could use a engine cleaner such as rislone . However be cautious ⚠️ as these bikes have a wet clutch in them. if the additive causes the clutch to slip you might be looking at an clutch replacement. Make sure if you use an engine wash it's okay for a wet clutch . Other than that, I don't have much advise to give on the sight. Hope this helps !!!

@@kanuckkorner8477 thanks for your quick reaction. With 'the cable wobbles' I meant that the needle is jumping, the housing is fine and isn't loose. I will consider using an engine cleaner, however the engine runs great so I am a bit cautious with that for the reasons you described. I'll check the oil brand too but I'm very sure that it is the best we can get here in the Netherlands. Hope it helps either. Thanks again👊😎

@@peer_64 If the needle is moving a little bit it's normal. If it's fluctuating by more than a couple hundred rpms there could be something wrong with the tachometer itself might be something broken or disconnected inside the unit. Also check to see if the cable is binding. If you turn the bars left to right and get a different reading might be the cable being caught As I say I'm cautious on a engine cleaner. But if someone previously used car oil in the bike instead of using a motorcycle oil designed for a wet clutch it could cause some residue to build up and make the oil level hard to see.

Next time you do an oil change see if the window is clear , if I put the amount of oil in the manual says , it is up and over the sight glass, and is over full .

So, did it fix your problem? You didnt show us the before or after, or comment on it. Just wondering.
