EXCELLENT video on dis-assembling, re-gasketing and re-assembling these goldwing carbs. i just want to point out to those who may be resurrecting a bike for the first time ... if the bike has been sitting for a year or more with old gas in the bowls, the inside of the carbs will not look anywhere near as nice as this. the brass jets WILL have to be removed and cleaned, and all the passageways need to be thoroughly cleaned with carb cleaner. also, thanks for spreading the word re : JIS screwdrivers; they make working on japanese bikes much easier.

Try nearly $100 per set here in Australia...bear in mind too... Coming from a reputable carb builder who specialises in these carbs... You should never need to replace any brass ware. Honda made those to last.

Excellent Very Informative Video. My "4-pack" has been sitting in a box ever since the dual throat Weber install on my 1100. I had to fabricate a plenum and runners but it was worth the effort. Thanks to you I have a carb project to work on. I have been negotiating to buy a "basket case" 1100 that has no carbs. I still have another dual throat Weber but building the plenum and intake runners was a lot of work. If I can make the basket run with stock carbs it will make for an easy sale. The rest of the missing parts are fairing parts.

Randakks Cycle Shack in Florida has the center plenum gasket sold separately or with a complete kit. That center plenum gasket is no longer available from Honda. Randakks has it available for the GL1000 also. Look them up on the internet. No... I'm not connected with them just relaying information that's hard to find.

You should always pull the jets out and clean those as well whenever you are doing a full carb rebuild like this. The carbs may look clean but since you are already doing all the work it only makes sense to soak the jets in carb clean and blow the channels in the carb out with cleaner and compressed air. When you do this job on much dirtier carbs, those channels become very difficult to clean as well.
@willjohnson58612 жыл бұрын
I would also buy the randakks full carb kit, the Honda stuff is great but for the same price as those four gasket sets the randakks kit comes with many more parts you will need and an instruction booklet.
@kanuckkorner84772 жыл бұрын
I did that previously so did not include it in the video . But yes should always clean the jets out. The randakk kit is great but is more expensive than the honda kit in Canada.

I was able to rebuild them myself thanks to you! Liked and subscribed. Question. What’s the best starting point with the idling adjustment (I think that’s what they are) on the bottom of the carbs (the one that look like a tiny flag) they are in carbs 2,3 and 4. Thanks!!
@kanuckkorner8477 Жыл бұрын
Hi sebastian glad you found the video helpful. The cylmers manual has the idle screws set at 1.5 turns out from base. There are 4 located on the bottom of the carburetors. Ensure they are cleaned well as built up gas residue will give you a false position. Turn the screw all the way in till LITELLY SEATED. Then turn them out 1.5 turns ( 3 half turns of the screw) all pilot screws should be adjusted to the same position. If one cylinder is running richer or learner there is another issue and adjusting this screw won't solve the problem. All four are equal setting. Hope this helps ! Ride safe !

@kanuckkorner84772 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, it would be beneficial to vaccum sync the carbs after adjusting them or adjusting the valve clearance,
@Voddrix23 жыл бұрын
Any tips for synching and tuning these?
@kanuckkorner84773 жыл бұрын
Make sure your float needles are good aswell as the float height before tuning very important. Most people say 2 or 2.5 turns out on the pilot screw but just start the bike and let it get to temp and turn them out equally till you achieve the highest idle. You'll hear when the bike is running really well . Adjust the rims back to around 1000. Then start your sync cylinders 1 and 3 or the right side ( sitting on the bike ) need to read the same on the gauges. Then adjust cylinders 2 to read the same as cylinder 4 then adjust 4 to read the same as three and the rest of them . Snap the throttle a couple times throughout the process so the butterfly valves will seat where they want. Best of luck!

Thanks for an informative carb video. Your carbs seem clean whereas mine have been sitting with corn gas and will need extensive cleaning. Are there any parts that should be replaced if they've set-up for some time? Getting ready to do 2 sets for my 2 GW Standards. My other question is whether you've had any issues with rusty gas tanks and where you would get them boiled out and coated. My understanding is there are filters inside so the tank can't just be coated inside but needs someone who is familiar with GL1100 fuel tanks.
@kanuckkorner84772 жыл бұрын
The air cut off valves and the accelerator pump should be replaced if there really old. As for the gas tank I'm not to sure with that I believe the petcocks have filters I've seen people use a rust inhibitor and sealer but might be easier to check ebay for a tank if the price is right. Best of luck !

What do you do besides carbs
@jamespolucha69113 жыл бұрын
I just assembled my carbs and have gas coming out of the butterfly shaft on number #2 where the shaft hooks to the number 4 carb, I know gas shouldn’t be that high do you think it’s my float or the float needle valve ?
@kanuckkorner84773 жыл бұрын
It could be that the float level is off. Check up higher on the carb where it mounts to the plenum might be the fuel seals leaking there and coming down the carb lookin like it's leaking from the butterfly shaft. Did you use oem seals or aftermarket ?
@jamespolucha69113 жыл бұрын
@@kanuckkorner8477 I used Randakks master seal kit, I just took the carbs back off checked all the float levels and float seat everything looks good , bench tested the carbs and no leaks now , maybe I flooded it trying to start it, the bike hasn’t been started for about 15 years, I guess I’ll try it one more time, I’m getting good at pulling theses carbs off and on
@kanuckkorner84773 жыл бұрын
That's a good rebuild kit. Might have just got the float caught on something the first time .start your pilot screws at 1.5 turns out to start shouldn't need to move it much in either direction to tune . Best of luck!

Hi, sorry unfortunately I do not fo this kind of work I would suggest getting rebuild kits from either honda or fortnine has a k&l brand rebuild depending on how old the carbs are too it would be a good idea to check or replace your air cut off valves and the accelerator pump. A rough cost for a full rebuild on theses carbs would be about 450-500 for all new seals and gaskets if you rebuild yourself. Here is a link that will help you go through the carbs aswell as using my video for reference. Make sure all the ports all well cleaned and soak all the brass in carb cleaner.
