You did it because you aren’t a “catalogue builder”. You want to know how things work. That’s lost on the past few generations. Great work!

I just fixed my generator! Thanks for the video. 61 f100 all original just because " it's fun"

The best part of re-installing the original generator is because the Falcon's engine originally came off the assembly line with it. Nothing like presenting the engine bay in a vintage car at a cruise night looking like it should.

Just Sub'd you. I discovered your channel by accident while desperately looking for some help for my '63 Mercury Meteor's generator. Your personality is unlike all of the other automotive show-you-how-its-done types. I find that refreshing not to mention your DIY attitude. I am of the same caliber...Everything is a learning experience and when I spend precious time learning, I'm a happier person. I restored my Meteor by myself. Every nut, bolt, hose, wire, chrome and glass came out, was cleaned and repainted. Some days were amazing and others were horrifying. Yet, the car and I came out on top. (You can see it on Wikipedia for Mercury Meteor. Mine is the red S33. Anyhow, shes rollin' again but recently I learned that the battery had not been charging this whole time since I tore it apart. Ghaaaa. The Generator and Regulator were always mysterious to me but after all this time, why stop here? So I pulled apart the generator, replaced the bearing and bushing and brushes then set out to do some testing. The generator was only outputting 1-2vdc at best. The car still has the original generator and regulator and I have a spare NOS regulator. The thing stumped me until I saw that you wired yours like a motor. Brilliant! I did the same and my gen spins. Not scientific, like you said, but it was data. Mine spins clockwise as a motor BTW. Anyhow, I'm still testing and not understanding why it's not putting out the right voltage. I spin it on the bench with it in a vise. I use a 15/16th socket on the pulley nut and drive it with a high speed drill. The output is still low. When I close the isolation point, it draws 30a which is strange. I have the service books like you so I will continue testing, although I don't have the fancy tools they illustrate in the book. I have my voltmeter and will continue the fight! Thank you so much for this video. Please make MOOORE!

This was a Excellent video you taught me everything there was to know about a generator system on the old school cars.

Great job! Fiddling with old cars IS all about fun and learning. When you replace the generator bearings, consider whether the generator fan needs to be swapped, my bet is that the one on there now is turning the wrong way.

Great video and it's easy to understand why you did the work. Your car now has the charging system that Ford originally equipped it with.
@edsel68182 жыл бұрын
Yea, I was gonna say, installing a set of bearings wouldn't hurt, after all, the last thing you need is for the generator to seize up on you while driving it, also it would be wise to install a new voltage regulator, that would your best work. I had install a new regulator & generator on both of my 58 EDSELS, it was hard removing the bolts off, and it was hell installing it back together, but I got it, and now they both work excellent, of course I had polorize em before starting the cars, great video. 👋😉😁👍

I need to get my generator addressed soon. I'm not sure if it works, and one of those posts is loose so it probably doesn't. But now I know what to look out for!

Thats Kool! i wonder if the last owner was beating his head up agenst the wall with that genarator, i get you put the genarator back on. i has a 62 Falcon just like yours. it had a 3 speed in it. I put a new clutch in it, i thought it would be easyer to put the oil in the trans before i installed it. That was a bad iedea, i had 90 wt everywhere , in my hair, what a mess . thanks for the videos Brendan

Just watched your video, I'm not sure about the gen. spinning backwards issue, but polarizing a gen. and voltage reg is a very simple procedure and to my understanding needs to be done any time the battery goes dead, disconnected or a new battery put on. there are some great videos on you tube just search "how to polarize a generator". I came across it while researching issues I'm having with my tractor generator. Great video, cool car.

What made me ask the polarize question is when you changed field wires would polarize do same thing? I have a 62 sunliner. Every few years the brushes get sticky in holders. No other generator issues

I know this is an old video but that generator is off a 55 ford and in fact is a 7 volt generator. They were positive ground. I have one. It is fine for a 12 volt system in fact the winding are heaver then a 12 volt generator. The voltage regulator determines the output.

Would a bad generator cause the falcon to die? On our 60 ranchero the light doesn’t stay on but the car wants to die. I also get a loud clicking noise from behind the seat and the gen light flashes?

200 cu in in 1961? I thought they were either 144 or 170 cu in until about '63. But much of what I think isn't quite accurate, so maybe not.
@onewhocollects67812 жыл бұрын
Correct. This car had a 144 originally. At some point someone replaced it with a '66 200.
@tedpeterson11563 жыл бұрын
C'mon man, since you were already "upgrading" from alternator to generator you should have just converted the car to positive ground! What's wrong with you!? :)
