Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.
I have the largest Small Engine Repair Video Library on KZbin and the entire internet with over 1200 videos, just GOOGLE "DONYBOY73"!
I want "DON THE SMALL ENGINE DOCTOR" on KZbin to save you time, frustration and most importantly, MONEY with my HOW-TO videos!

That is so cool Dony! Over 35 years ago, I took a small engine course with my Dad at a local high school in the evenings. The Instructor showed us that trick of using a business card to set the coil gap! I have never forgotten it! So cool to see you doing the same thing so many years later!

Have been watching your videos for a while now, and used 3 or 4 of them the other day to diagnose hard starting/missing issues on craftsman lawn tractor. Did a valve adjust, choke adjust and sanded down the flywheel magnet and re gapped the ignition modules. Runs great now.. thank you so much Don... your videos are very straightforward and easy to follow.. much appreciated!!

Great video Don. I'm here because my 15 year old CV20S on a Dixie Chopper suddenly started doing what yours did but much worse. Pulled the cover (what a PITA!) and found one of the spark plug wires chewed halfway through right at the module. New ones on the way. Thanks for showing the procedure so clearly and the great tip on those testers. Never heard of them.

Great video, have a craftsman with a 22hp Briggs had a spark but would not run , so I thought that with any spark it should run ? Well bought that tester after watching ur video review. Boom barely a spark changed coil , they only have one purrs like a kitten. That tester is great and I learned something. Thanks Donyboy and have a great day. Keith

I was told taught they work or they don't. Sometimes you get one that will work when it is first started, but then after it gets warm it would quit. I see now that there is more to it. I learned something new today. Very cool video.

Thanks this totally makes sense, testing the coil was erratic when testing the resistance, but it started and ran. I was thinking the carb, but it looked really clean, and did not have a kit to rebuild, so I am waiting on that, I guess I will get a new coil as well. Thanks!

Wow, very informative and helpful vid, thanks Donny! I had a similar coil failure on a small Tecumseh LEV-120, it would start just fine but then as it warmed up it would pop and lose power then eventually die out. New coil fixed it right up, guess a winding went open or something.

Thanks for all the vids you do Donyboy, I had a feeling it was coil related after you mentioned the popping and poor running, seen it a few times in chainsaws and mowers etc, I like the inline testers, that's a great bit of kit and cuts out the guess work as such and confirms it is indeed coil related. I will have to let my mate know about them and see if we can source some here in Australia.

Thanks for this excellent video. I always thought a coil was either good or dead but I learned the hard way and from this video that is not necessarily so. I tested both coils on my V twin and both were in spec. Like you, I initially thought the carb was the problem, but even a new carb didn't fix it. My engine was surging badly and would backfire as well. It wasn't until I saw this vid and I got a spark tester that I was finally able to diagnose the problem as a bad coil I have a lot less hair now but with the help from your video I FINALLY got it fixed.

Donny, since I've been watching your channel, I have purchased those inline testers. I use them all the time even though nothing seems to be apparent. I've gotten a few tractors that the coils were so bad and if it wasn't a fuel issue then the coils are the culprit..Keep the videos coming.

Never knew a module could be weak. Thought it either worked or not. Great video
@JodBronson
@JodBronson 5 жыл бұрын
@Paul Zacher - Now you know! It's called " Electrical Leakage ". During usage, the Module gets " hot ". In the Module, the Wires might melt through time and it create a small shortage / electrical leaks. This would make the Module weak, since electricity find the closes ground to get to. :)

Some modules use a microprocessor to advance the ignition timing for high rpms. Sometimes that can go bad and make the engine run terrible at full throttle. Though the opposite was happening here in which the engine was running poorly on low throttle.
