I found you by search fixing the engage on a John Derre E150. My engage just stopped after 2 roes. I have been needing to change blade for awhile. With weather and me working a ft jib owning house of my own, I never got to it. Now I reqlly have to. Thank you for your info. I will be checking those areas as well. My parents have past away. They are truly alive just not in body. Your Dad is too. I got my skills of fixing things from my Dad. Crafts on both sides of my family. Garden from both sides as well. So sorry for your loss. You have guardian angels watching.

This exact thing just happened to me on my GX325 I inherited from my grandfather that passed away. Great video. I already knew the wiring was ripped from somewhere but without seeing this I wouldn't have gone straight to pulling the PTO clutch if I didn't have to. Here's to hoping mine isn't seized...

Appreciate the video. Straight forward, easy diagnosis. My 1989 JD 170 factory pto clutch finally died, and she didn't go quietly. Never hear of Aerokroil, glad you shared. Usually PB Blast is my go-to pc, nice to know there's other options on the shelf. 🔧

Thanks for posting, transmission fluid works wells at removing bolts also. Some people even mix in a little acetone to help break down the rust. (Just don't get the acetone on any rubber or plastic parts)

That’s a good tip. Thank you!

Nice investigating. Not sure how the main bolt got loose, unless it had been removed not long before you inherited the tractor. Usually they're very difficult to loosen. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the PTO video. BTW since You mentioned Your Dad, I gotta share: My BP was 19/11 in 1990 = I left My body & went "HOME".. came back, was in the room watching eVeRyOnE freak out, saw "Me" laying there.. I wasn't worried about it at all.. realized 19/11 meant "dead" & I laughed about it. Anyway, bOdy is WHAT, not WHO. I'm sure Your Dad is FINE. There really IS a LiGHT ♥️ 🕊️ TaNgiBLe is TeMpOrArY. It'll make sense to You eventually. Anyway, Consciousness IS ETERNAL ☯️ the communication is thOught based ♥️ When ____ mention Whoever died/dead, I figure They would like Me to remind ____ that LiFe doesn't end just beCAUSE the bOdy released/changed. LiFe is the LIGHT on the room.. Trust the ♥️ based thOughts. 😁

I had problem too, bolt sliped and cut wires. But why bolt sliped? How to tighten it. Do i need to replace pto or just tighten bolt?
@FrenchRiverCo4 жыл бұрын
As long as you’re able to repair the cut wiring you should be able to just tighten the bolt. Best I can find off hand, the torque specs on my pto bolt is around 100 ft-lbs.

Just had the same problem happen today but my PTO switch clicks down by the clutch but still won't engage. I'm guessing it's still a problem with the clutch?
@FrenchRiverCo3 жыл бұрын
Hmm that doesn’t seem likely. If it clicks then it’s receiving power. Have you checked the belts, PTO key, and safety switches?
@mhoff77223 жыл бұрын
@@FrenchRiverCo Belts are good. Pulley on the clutch will spin by hand but not very freely. Pretty rough and takes some effort to get it to move. Will check safety switches. Engine shuts off if I engage the PTO switch when NOT sitting on the seat. Does that indicate seat switch is working? Also it kills the engine when you're not sittgin in the seat and the parking brake is not engaged. (as usual). PTO switch has continuity.
@FrenchRiverCo3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that all sounds normal. I would check the key on the crankshaft for the PTO.
@mhoff77223 жыл бұрын
@@FrenchRiverCo I figured it out. I just found that the deck pulley tensioner spring broke. So the clutch pulley was actually spinning but the other pulleys had no tension against the belt. Couldn't see that because I had to sit on the mower to turn on the PTO lol. Sorry for the false alarm. Thanks for your help! Wouldn't have double checked the belt / pulleys if you didn't mention it.
@FrenchRiverCo3 жыл бұрын
No worries! That’s a common failure if the belt jumps or stretches. I’m glad you figured it out!

First time using my John Deere E 100 - I was mowing just fine today and then my mower made some noise and the engine died. Every time i engage the PTO to start it back up it makes a little bit of noise and completely dies out again. Can anyone help?
@FrenchRiverCo5 жыл бұрын
Does the engine start fine without engaging the PTO? Did you hit anything with the mower? Sounds like the mower (engaging the PTO) has increased resistance which kills the engine. Check the PTO wiring which goes from the PTO to the switch so ensure it isn’t sheared and also look at your blades and the drive shaft to see if anything is bent.
