I like your method of killing small hive beetles. I'll mash half the frame trying to smash a single one! I've got at least 1 laying worker hive I need to take of tomorrow...I almost did tonight...but, meh, I'll wait. Not sure which hive I'm going to dump it on top of. I just place the box on top of a strong hive and forget it... So much easier than messing with trying to add open brood or any other way... Just set it and forget it as you did!

just go back in 3 days and all is good.

@@WoolieBsApiary Yup, I'll do that, maybe wait a bit longer too. That method is so much easier than adding open brood a few times. It''s like ...2 steps and it's fixed! & the shaking the bees away simply does NOT work as many think!

I just put a piece of newspaper between a strong queen rite colony and put the laying workers above. So far it's always worked for me but I have only had 3 laying worker colonies so far.

Many folks just add a frame of unsealed brood to the laying worker hive. Then, the next day, they will try putting in a caged queen. What I do is to add a frame of unsealed brood. Then, the next day, I add them to a normal hive using the newspaper method. Later on, I just split them off again and add a queen.

Humm... curious about how you manage the entrances. Did I miss that?
@WoolieBsApiary2 жыл бұрын
the entrance for the bottom queen right is normal 2 inch opening the top box with the laying worker is closed the lid has 1/8 inch spacer for ventilation. i went back in 3 days and took the divider board out and they are now a happy colony.

If you leave the drone laying colony on top for a week, closed up without an exit, do they survive ok?

I go back in 3 days and take the divider out

So the top box, with the laying workers, does not have an entrance so the bees are locked up there for a week?
@WoolieBsApiary2 жыл бұрын
3 days with the 1/8 inch spacer under the lid so ventilation brings up the pheromones from the queen right colony up into the laying worker box.
