Heads up. When take those corroded screws out, when it gets to where it stops, spray it and turn it in, then back out. Repeat until it’s out. You’ll be successful with out stripping the head or breaking it most of the time. 25 years of taking those apart, I learned a few things. BTW muskrats and other rodents love those sensor wires, like moths to light.

As far as the freeze plug, pull the outdrive like before. The engine can come out with out it, but it’s just easier. Also while you’ve got it apart check the engine coupler for wear. Its brass, it’s meant to be the weak link in the drive. You’ll need a lineup tool to properly put it all back together once you pull the engine. If not a slight misalignment in the engine coupler to the drive shaft will eat the coupler splines and cause a failure. Something else I noticed. The oil level in the drive should only fill to the level of the plug on the side. Overfilling will blow seals, and or prevent proper circulation of oil through the drive. Best get a service manual to reference. Good luck.

Great video. This could be a good reference video for me on this type of inboard as I have a very similar setup on my Maxum 20' open bow. I am curious tho as to how the water got in due to that freeze plug? That should be separate as that's part of the engine block and not part of the actual prop setup. Maybe I'm missing something here! 💁🏼‍♂️🤔

This why I started building pontoon boats house boats many years ago. All these factory pump out the door boats are built out of thin tin can crap. You punch a hole in one pontoon that whole side going down. I order the pontoons in any size from 18" to 58" any length. Each pontoon has a solid welded in bulk head every 5 feet. For an inboard out board i/o it needs to be installed in a 10 foot long center pontoon to take the weight an be stable. The pontoon I order are built here in Canada and are Canada an usa Coast Guard approved and Transport Canada approved. Were your steering cable go iñn. There needs to be a flex rubber boot to seal out water. Not sure how the factory has instaĺed the drive an engeine but if they didnt cheap out the engeine should pull out with out removing more then you did. Just do not remove the yoke or you will need to buy a $200 cnd lining shaft to reset it. There should be aluminum motor mount tabs welded to that cheap tin can box. If you bought a sea star cable you will never bend them. Not sure why you changed the steering box. Maybe that off brand only sells a whole kit. Even if you bought the sea star kit. Cable an box. Steering wheel is extra do to there very wide rang of style color. But you can buy just the cable. An they have a 15 year waranty an all there rebuild parts are life time. An there oils . If damage is done from there oil they pay to rebuild or replace research Sierra oils
@TheHomePros6221
@TheHomePros6221 Жыл бұрын
the pontoons on this are actually very solid and strong, they took a direct hit to a stump and no damage was done, also the engine is mounted in a center pontoon just like you said, did you even watch the video?? and the old steering kit WAS a sea star and it bent!! I do appreciate your tips but I couldn’t understand what you were talking about on how to pull the engine and replace the freeze plugs

@@TheHomePros6221 it sure didnt look like a round center pod with a cone on the front end. Center pods I use are 3/16 marine aluminum and have a black tight angle top were the engeine sits in. Bottom is rounds as well as fully round up to the cone. I dont see the weld seems every 5 feet were a bulk head welded in. Or a 3/4" pipe plug in the top side of each 5 foot section Every factory one I have repaired there no bulk heads an aluminum is only 100 wall thinner then 1/8" if that's a center pod it should have around a 3.5" rectangle at the back of the centre pod and then rounded off like a regular pontoon and then fully rounded with 6in aluminum channels welded on each side. The bolts with stainless steel bolts to the main structure and 10 ft long with a nose cone like the other pontoons. It's the old steering systems a Seastar is warranty no matter how old it is for what happened. Chipotle engine remove the outline as you did disconnect all electrical and cooling lines unbolt the coupler at the Hub and undo the four motor mounts lift engine and slide forward to clear the Hub and lift up. Remove old frost plug clean with fine Emery cloth clean casting were new frost plug fit clean with brake clean drive new frost plug in with a socket that fits to the outer edge of plug. Tap it in slow an strait. Once well started drive it in flush to the block. If new frost plug do not have a dry strip of red lottie put some around the flange before install

good info thanks, the aluminum is most def thicker than 1/8 it’s like 3/16 or bigger and it is made exactly like u said with the bulkheads and unbolts from the main boat exactly like u said, thanks for all the good info 👍🙂

the trailer bunk looked real close to the steering cable and if you ran the boat onto the trailer too agressively, it could possibley hit the cable and bend the sleeve you cut off with your grinder.
