That was really well explained. Now I’ll be thinking of the core and cushion of my playing. Clever analogy!

I’m not a flute player, but I am a trumpet player and this advice definitely still applies to a degree, especially “the cleanest sound isn’t always the best sound”
@LanceSuzuki8 ай бұрын
Great! I heard a similar thing from a trumpet player on Instagram. Trumpet and flute are the same?!
@smartaleckduck41358 ай бұрын
@@LanceSuzuki well, the way I see it, the “correct” sound is whatever sounds good in the moment, and that’s advice that I’d wager is applicable to every instrument, not just flute and trumpet

This is very correct. I just bought a new flute and had trouble hitting the notes due to the new mouthpiece. I adapted and when i moved back to my old flute for comparison i suddendly had this cushion sound! I always tried to avoid it in my beginner flute, since i thought it's wrong to hear anything other than the core. But my advanced flute needs it to sound gorgeous and now i use the cushion on my beginner flute as well knowing it's the right way to play.

When I first blow on the flute, it makes a beautiful sound, but when I continue playing, it sounds airy What should I do?
@ixanviolin65428 ай бұрын
Yes i was try but still airy sound😢😢😢
@LanceSuzuki8 ай бұрын
Keep in mind that you will still hear the airy “cushion” sound near your ear. However, you need to increase the core enough that, from a distance the cushion is less obvious. Be sure to record yourself from a distance. Happy practicing!

I CANT PLAY CAUSE MY FLUTE IS RIGHT HANDED BUT IM LEFT HANDED SO IM BLOWING ON THE WRONG SIDE SO NO MATTER WHAT I DO IT WILL STILL SOUND AIRY
@LanceSuzuki3 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, there’s no such thing as a right-handed or left-handed flute. You can only hold it in one direction…it should aim toward your right. However, you are using both hands so I’m not sure if dominant hand plays such a big role. Happy practicing!

So what is the core and what is the cushion?
@annamaria.riccardi6 ай бұрын
The core is the center of the sound and the cushion is what you build onto it to add depth and warmth.
