I hate the people that dislike that video, so much effort to make that kind of video. Your daughter is lucky to have father and mom like you. Much respect

I would've done a bead of silicone over the top as an added safety measure, and done all the other seams while you had them apart. Do you think the UV could've broken down a weak point in the PVC?

Doesn’t UV light slowly break down pvc Which could be the reason for the leak
@StingrayBiology5 жыл бұрын
It makes it brittle

Yes, the uv light does weaken the pvc/plastic casing of the uv filter light. (2:56 am, after finding my 4ft tank in my bedroom was leaking. The side of the uv filter casing had gone soft. Thank God my wife is away for 3 more days!)

hey Kevin love your vids and how meticulous you are...I am the same. Any reason you didn't use tape or any sealer on the "unions" when you put the UV back into place? That was SO sad when the water came out of the front pipe when you had drained it into the bag and were doing the back...lol It seemed so unfair! ;)

No need the union has rubber gasket

Thanks for putting up this video. Did you paint the inner side of PVC pipe with some type of flourescent acrylic paint. I see the glow. If yes what type of paint you used?

I definitely would have used PVC primer first. But I notice you never do use primer. Is there a reason you don't?
@variegated_stingray5 жыл бұрын
I've used a ton of PVC over the last 10+ years of being in the hobby and never used PVC primer. Never had a single leak... ever.
@nyrob4205 жыл бұрын
@@variegated_stingray I do HVAC for a living and I always use primer just so I know I don't have to come back to a job because of a leak.
@StingrayBiology5 жыл бұрын
It is good practice to use primer. It softens the pvc so the glue can work better. But to be totally honest... it's my ocd that stops me from using primer. I hate the purple ring it leaves. I like everything looking clean and clear. Lol..

For some reason I really think sanding it would have been a really good idea before you put the glue on the uv
@StingrayBiology5 жыл бұрын
I did. And filed down the old glue on the surface.
