Quick note : On some older vehicles the valve cover bolts may not have "stops" on them so you'll idealy want to find the torque rating and torque them to spec. In some cases (if the valve cover is metal or aluminum) overtightening can warp the cover and thus cause a leak. Less likely on plastic ones as they generally won't warp (they can though) from overtightening. This is also a good example of why 4 cylinder inline engines (or at least longitudinal V engines are better than transverse V engines....

Good timing - I'm just replacing my valve covers, Scotty. Unrelated question, when my LS400 is on the highway going, say 60mph, and I'm driving through a curve, still 60mph, I feel my steering wheel move slightly left and right continuously during the turn. I don't feel this while driving straight. It also looks like the LH front outer tire is showing extra wear. What do you think could be the problem?

I love the way you do your work of helping others attack car work, in a way that lessens the intimidation factor of doing some jobs for the beginner techs. And with these newer cars you indeed do have a swearing session on most jobs do too how tight they make engine bays and all that extra crap in cars today! If you have time to reply, I do have a question. 03 Kia Optima my son bought at Copart, came with the strangest smell on the inside and I can't find it. It's a constant smell whether the car is on or not. It isn't an oil burn smell that at 50yrs. Old I've ever smelled, but everything works fine, the car was wrecked on the driver side fender which has been fixed. It to me smells like a spray adhesive or something of that nature even if we leave the windows down. We leave them down over night and its still there strong as ever the next day. I hope you have a clue too help do to your experience and because I don't want my son driving a death trap. Thanks again for the videos.

I'm a big fan of your channel Scotty! I have a question for you.. I have an 05 Tacoma pickup with the 2.7 2TR-FE inline 4. I always let it warm up to within the temp gauge range before I drive it (It idles high when cold). But, sometimes after it warms up most of the way to the middle of the gauge after a few miles of driving in cold weather, I smell a little burning oil. Then it goes away after a few more miles. Any ideas on what it could be? Thanks.

The covers are plastic so there's a chance they're warped so should I replace the covers & gaskets or just the gaskets & if I have to replace both do you know where I could get them for a good price ?
