I recently experienced this issue, but just kept shooting and advancing the film when ready to take the photo. Would this have affect my ability to take photos? Recently got a blank roll of film back and really hoping the rolls i shot while experiencing this issue wont see the same issue

Hi there! i have recently just picked up a canon ae1 in visually stunning condition. However when I take a photo with it, my camera shoots with the self timer setting, even if i have the shutter switch set to "A". Even when i half press the shutter button, the countdown begins for the self timer setting, once this occurs i can then switch the shutter lever to the "s" setting which will take the photo prematurely (of the 10 second count down). Every 2nd or 3rd photo i take in the "L" setting will shoot perfectly fine, but then ill have 3 or 4 shots in a row that will select the self timer option as soon as i half press the button. let me know if anyone has had this issue before or can point me in the right direction. thanks

So each time you did something and went I’ll clean these then it jumped and you didn’t show what you did, which looked like you where shorting out with tweezers?!

I was uncertain if the magnet had become disconnected from the board so I had to look at it closely which was not in frame so I apologize for that but at @2:15 I make note of what I did to ensure the magnet worked. The shorting out with tweezers was to hopefully sync the shutter button with the shutter release but that ended up not being the source of the issue

Hello good morning ... I have the same problem. I already bought the magnet and I'm waiting for it to arrive. but in my case the leds that appear inside the camera do not light up. Will the problem be solved with the new magnet?

My ae1 program stops firing when I add a lens? It’s a sakar macro. Getting some cannon lenses soon but idk why this is happening

That's really interesting, it could be a number of factors like the lens blades could be stalling out causing the aperture arm in the camera to not move properly or it could be shorting out the board somehow. What settings do you have the camera/lens at?

@@RompingBronco any aperture it doesn’t fire, it was fine earlier. I can fire it without a lenses, with the x2 teleconverter, just not with the macro lens 🧐

It's probably a simple fix that can be done by a local (localish) camera repair shop.

That not magnet issue, but most likely SW5 problem at the top cover maybe broken.

Thrift store selling a standard with this problem for $30. I think they are asking too much.
