You can cover the basket yourself in clams but you can’t do anything about a soloqueue teammate rainmaker running the rainmaker into enemy paint. Or worse - resetting when you don’t have the lead or paint advantage

Depends on the weapons and playstyle but i find clam blitz to be the easiest mode as a mid/frontline player. My x power reflects it every season where its always the highest out of the four modes

Frankly, it's the one mode that can either be the best or worst experience in the game depending on the team you get pitted with! When you get a good team, you feel unstoppable, but when everyone is just running around like headless chickens and refusing to cooperate, there is no mode more frustrating!

On a related note, when it's time to defend in CB, please do not sit near the opponents basket. I get what you are trying to do, but it isn't worth it. The amount the enemy can score by willingly allowing this 3 v 4 situation is likely far more than the amount this cheese counter-score will produce, and that's assuming it works at all. The enemies that respawn will likely see you and deal with you. I don't see this very often in X rank, but I do still see it occasionally

The last time I did this, it was in 2. I had a reason, though. There were two enemies by our base, which was defended by three players. I was in a 2v1 at the opponent’s base, using the Kunder, sandwiched between them. After a full minute of saying, “This Way” to get them to jump to me, the one to my back went out of hiding, I splatted them, and made a power clam to break their barrier. My team finally realized what I meant, made a clam, and jumped to me, while I jumped back to them to splat the two enemies that they couldn’t for a whole minute.

Huh. I actually kinda intuitively picked up on the idea of putting yourself between the power clam holder and the basket as a brella player, specifically because of brush mains. They're so used to sliding up to the goal uncontested that the ability to physically block them with your canopy can throw them off and make that fight one I can actually win, where normally it'd favour the brush.

@@ShadowSkyX EEeeh sharking with Ink mines on the undercover is pretty underwhelming, I generally leave them at common choke points to warn my allies if someone's making a move on the goals and I'm not present to deal with it.

as someone who peaked at 2100 in clams last season im having trouble climbing out of the 1800s this time around. im not gonna pretend my play is pefect but im definitely aware of how to control space, and its pretty clear that a lot of players just dont paint and end up in bad fights because of it lol. i hope they see this and take notes because man it can be frustrating

I have a feeling the player in the clip briefly went into autopilot upon throwing the suction bomb. The thought process goes like this: "I just threw my suction bomb. The opponents now know my location because they saw where the bomb came from. I'm now very low on ink. I am vulnerable and less able to defend myself. Therefore, I should back up and find cover so I don't get splatted. ...Oh shit, that's a power clam!!"

As a charger player that plays both objective and defensive in CB, I try to always paint as much as possible of my base when spawning back to avoid both those situations from happening and sharkers(Watch Love Star play dualies). But i can not output ink fast enough compared to shooters even tap shooting. Please people, keeping base and mid painted leaving the least optimal amount of enemy ink is Great. Specially when people Scream in other modes like RM: "What is my team doing fighting one player?" Sorry it sounded like a rant

GGs @SquidSchool! I had a couple matches with/against you last night, and I thought one would make an appearance here. Ha! As a vet of slow-firing AOE weapons and their perspective, covering every line of enemy ink isn't always a productive use of time due to poor paint output/spread. Area denial comes more from the ranged AOE pressure than the paint coverage itself, due to slower downtime between shots. Fast-painting comps can close the gap in an instant, after all. It's a weakness of these weapons, which is why they rely so much on support for paint. However, as you explained, those crucial areas of the map can quickly make/break an enemy push with proper paint coverage (vs. raw DPS). Better map awareness is significant to success, no matter what weapon we play. In a solo-q setting, we shouldn't expect our teammates to paint every essential spot for control-we try to best paint them ourselves. In a competitive team setting, we should call those areas out if we need faster paint support from a teammate nearby. This lesson was a great reminder to me about attention to detail towards the opponent's movable ink-regardless of a weapon's primary function or role. I find clam blitz to be a a great mode to play, in theory. But at the same time, there are just some many mechanics/tactics to it that just go right over the heads of a once a week player. This is a great example of using paint to deny a push. The one that really tilts me recently is when a team has "too many goalies." Players that sit too far back positioning a defense all game that they yield all map control and clams on map to the enemy. Backliners need to use range to make space for frontliners to make aggressive plays.

As a carbon roller main you have to learn this sort of thing early on if you want to be good at it and *boy*, do solo queue teammates ignore the importance of turf in ranked modes. Learning to use the tiniest patches of ink did me wonders but it's nearly impossible when the opponent knows that you need them. I really wish the game had a command that specifically said "come with me/give me support" instead of just "come here"

I'm only A rank, but I always thought I just sucked at defense because I couldn't aim. I often try to take on a defensive role while my teammates play more aggressively, so I was frustrated with how opponents would always slip by me despite me being ready to defend. I'll definitely focus more on inking my opponents feet in my next rounds of clams, thanks a ton!

I feel like people really undervalue paint control in casual play in general. At the very least, it should be obvious that Clam baskets, Rain checkpoints and Tower routes need to be reclaimed and given a defensive line as soon as fights are over. Top level players may be able to get away with rushing their counterpushes and walling out the whole enemy team at their base, but slower-paced solo queue really needs more careful tactics like this

Great analogy. Cause everytime an opponent throws in a big clam your team would just kill every opponent who has a clam in their hand. Just like how the Bomb blitz destroys every bloon on screen every time a heart is lost. And you’re kinda right with the 4-0-2 Alchemist part. Better stock up on Stronger Stimulants, and by that I mean Tacticoolers, for a good push.

It's a little embarassing how much this changed my gameplay for the better. I'm S+0. When people say "paint their feet", I think that's a much worse concept than "paint their path".

I feel like the ideas better players have about lower level players is really strange to me. Half the community overestimates everyone, half underestimates them, and gem just suggested that s+ players learn the flank routes on all the maps. Like I assume most s+ players know the maps, I do at least. I have no problem with gem, it's just a weird thing I noticed.
