I´d love to see all kinds of tiny alterations that make clothes either more fashionable or maybe alterations that make them fit better. Like for example: the best way to alter sleeves of a blazer so it fits you like it's professionally tailored or: things that can make a simple dress of shirt more interesting. I LOVE the thrifted transformations but some of them are too big a project for me personally so little things like adding straps are great!

Invest in some quality materials, really stiff denim, it will last you longer
@Smile4ever144 жыл бұрын
@@Dumpknoedel Does the invest in stiffer demin also work when you have thick tights and end up throwing out pants on a semi regular bases because of holes in the thigh area?
@matildadegaard51304 жыл бұрын
Bhavya Tanguturu usually yes. I used to get holes in my jeans when my thighs were thicker and that stopped when I invested in Levi’s. Even my friends with smaller thighs got holes in their jeans because the fabric sucked.
@applescruff16794 жыл бұрын
@@Dumpknoedel I thought about that... never had enough money before or could find some, that fit me. And somehow I thought, you also just pay for the brand's name with brand jeans - maybe I'll give it a try
@staceyy60644 жыл бұрын
@@Smile4ever14 have you tried iron on patches? I know where I get the holes so I put the patches in BEFORE the holes start, and it stopped that from happening. Also though, I do think investing in jeans get you a better quality that won't do that to you. Just because they are thicker so they need ALOT more "rub time" to become threadbare unlike cheap, thin jeans.

For pants that have dye that runs, it can help to turn them inside out when washing. The dye will run back onto the pants and slow down the fading. ✌

Make sure when you're hemming curtains that you measure the curtains on several points. Old houses can be a bit crooked, so your curtain can end up too long or short on one side!

If they come in a pair don’t assume the two are the same length either, have been rehanging some old curtains that used to be in our dining room and it turned out one was 1inch shorter than the other 🤷♀️
@TUMunich4 жыл бұрын
Also you should always leave some extra material on the bottom because they often shrink in the wash causing them to hang at an awkward slightly too short length (I learned the hard way). This is why you should use a super coarse sticht but a slightly looser one (or just use curtain iron on stickers from ikea) so you can easily adjust them later on. I have found that curtains can sometimes shrink 1-3 inches in the wash (depending on high long they are and how often you wash them)

A trick I learned at my job (I do repairs on coveralls and pants and construction work shirts etc) for buttons is to double your thread so there’s four strands and then tie your knot at the end of your needle and thread. That way you only have to go through twice and it’s a really strong hold for the buttons.

Very creative; especially the sports bra. It helps give me confidence to do some repairs that I have set aside. Recently, I made a few shopping bags out of old drapes. They were perfect but I knew the person I was making them for, liked purple, so I decided to die them. Then, I realized that I needed to "fix" the dye. It was as expensive as the dye, so just a head's up that this process is expensive. Still, if that's what you want, and don't really want to buy new, it's worth it. Love your videos.

Lol the elastic adding into the waist is something I do a lot for my son: I tend to get larger pants because he’s growing so fast. Though I do it differently, I use the seam ripper to slash two holes, strategically placed behind the belt holders and very close zigzagged over to seal both the slash closed and the elastic in place 👍

I've been doing the elastic in the back of pants ever since I learned to sew, (at about 8 yrs old). As an hourglass bordering on pear-shape, every pair of pants I've ever owned have never fitted my waist properly. I do them by hand, I cut a "buttonhole" on the inside of the waistband at each side seam, insert the elastic, blanket stitch around the buttonhole catching the elastic as I go, then doing an opposing-side kind of whip stitch to close the buttonhole. The last time I was at the haberdashers (before all this craziness), I noticed they had elastic with little slits in it, to fit buttons through. This would be great to use in kids pants, for adjustable waists.

Make sure you’re wrapping your thread around the thread under the button a few times before going out the back and knotting it! It helps the button work a bit easier and with less tension to they’re harder to make cone off. Hope this makes sense.

Here is a tip for putting on buttons. I was taught to first do a few (two, three) stitches in the fabric to strengthen the link between the fabric and the buttons, and then use the next stitch to go into the button hole. If you have four holes, try doing it crossed, in stead of two parallel lines, so you will have a lot of strength in it to make sure the button could not fall off that easily. Source: worked in a grocery store which had gilets as part of the uniform. Lost plenty of buttons there.
