Nicely explained and filmed. I love your "MacGyver"-like fix with the spring. Thanks. I'm going to tackle my blinds today.

Excellent! I am having exactly this problem, will try the spring fix next. The spacer idea is very good, too. On my blind, the gap for the spring is 2.047", the compressed gap is 0.68". I will give the fix a try. Thanks!

Love it - especially that you have a drawer of springs, and the fact that the pen fits over the axle and into the spring. I have at least 5 of these to fix . . .

Yeah I love it when I find things that fit just right like that! Are your blinds all broken the same way? I've had some other problems with the blinds in my house, but this is the only one like this so far...

This was the perfect fix! Unfortunately didn't have the box of springs, but found 2 at Menards that worked perfectly! Thanks for posting this.

This is an amazingly clever and resourceful fix for this problem. I wish I could use this method, but upon inspection I don't see any such windup geared mechanism or wound string. So far at a loss how to fix mine, but still investigating it.

Clever! Thanks for this! I have the exact problem and can't find any parts on the web. This save me from getting new blinds.

How do you clean old shades that are in need of a good cleaning

I finally got my new windows installed on a home I bought 2 years ago. I have 7 of what appears to be the same shades (graber) that never seemed to work properly. When I removed them for the new window install, I discovered what my problem is. The end caps and their little tabs that hold it in place were all broken off. specifically, the other end piece with the plastic rod that goes into the metal tension rod. Clearly the previous owner tinkered with this by the amount of glue.in the end piece. If it weren't for the fact that it's a large picture window, and the cost of a new one, I'd chuck it. Anyway, thanks for your video. I'll figure something out.

Hi, did you ever figure something out to repair your blinds? I think I have the same problem on mine as you did. The long clear plastic screw that goes inside the rotating metal rod at the opposite end ( not the motor end) broke off from where it attaches to the end cap. Were you able to find any replacement parts ?

Nice work! Sad to think that most of these probably get thrown into landfill thanks to that tiny piece of plastic breaking :(

Question, how do I fix the blind when the retracting cord has been untied from the bottom button? …yup, I’m blonde and I did it! Any suggestions would be REALLY appreciated!
