This was fantastic and worked like a charm. My old cellular shades slid out of the end of the mounting bracket but the fix was the same. You saved me lots of $$$. Thank you.

HERE'S A HINT: This video was a big help to me, but my knot was too big to fit through the hole for the cord. What I did was to stretch the shade open and look in through the cells to find the knot. Then, several cells below the knot, I used a crochet needle to reach in and snag the cord. I slowly closed the shade and as there was more slack in the cord, I pulled the cord out the side of the shade with the crochet needle. I needed to pull the knot through a few of the cells, sometimes reaching in with another crochet needle and pushing the fabric of the cell over the knot, until the knot came out the side. Then, while I held on to the cord to stop it from springing back into the shade, my wife unraveled the knot and ironed the string. Sorry I didn't make a video, but I hope this helps someone.

You're a freaking genius I don't have crochet needles, but I managed to put together a contraption with a small bottle opener on the end to hook the string. Fixed the blinds at my parents house after four years of being broken, they were planning on just replacing them.

What should I do if the string is broken inside? Is that fixable or am I looking at a new blind?

Thank you for this video! I managed to undo the knot with your trick, but when I put the shade back up, the mechanism to go up won't work, so it stays hanging (at least it doesn't have a knot anymore). I tried the whole pull out all the way thing and tug at 45 degree angle a few times, but it didn't reset the gear. I figured I may have messed up the gear. Any tips?

Thank you so much. This repair also works for IKEA TRIPPEVALS blind. Although releasing the spring for the IKEA blind need 2 mans job so the spring not flying when you release it.

So I have these exact same blinds but a bit of a different problem. When I removed the bottom, I found that the cord that retracts to pull the slack in so the blinds stay up disconnected from the piece holding the lines inside the shades. Do you have a video on how to repair that? Its been really difficult to get into that spot at all and I cant seem to get the wheel to retract the string inwards.

Did you ever get the answer for your issue? I have the same situation .

Another issue that can come up is when one section of the thread has gone into the wrong "slider". I assume it can happen when the shade is being closed or opened too fast. Thanks for this video anyway, your process still got me started.

My blinds were stuck down. Well... watching your video helped me discover the problem. It wasn't a knot. But the black box that holds the cord in there, the cord was wrapped to tight. I was able to slightly pull on the cord in the direction to lift it and it worked. It loosened it enough to get the blind to retract back up. But once I installed the blinds back to the window it still malfunctions. I was able to pull it down but it won't go back up again. It seems that cord is to tight in that system in the black box. Not sure how to unwind it and loosely wind it back so it's not to tight in there. I'm afraid to take that much apart lol. Guess I'll need to buy a new one but in the meantime I like a good project. I'm determined to get this thing to work right. Any suggestions???

If your at the end and going to replace it anyway, might as well give it a shot and try. Nothing to lose at that point.

do you know how to fix the string the string that you had to straighten out

Suppose there was not a knot yet it still will not roll up how do you handle that
@mugs1322 жыл бұрын
If the line snapped the whole thing is toast. Otherwise I’d take it apart and see if it’s another issue you may be able to easily fix. Nothing to lose if it’s already not working

What about when the shade won’t go all the way up. How do I fix it it then?
@mugs1322 жыл бұрын
Depending on the size of the knot you should be able to get the blind to collapse after taking it off the wall. This worked for me even though it wouldn’t collapse while attached to the wall. Then I was able to access and remove the knot

No, you’re not. 😤 knot? This is more like the 🤬 elastic inside the string is now on the outside after futzing with it as he suggests. Not anywhere near as easy as this guy had it. Even if I get the elastic back inside by some miracle, I don’t know if I can get the mechanism I completely took apart (which is nothing like his) back together. Why do they make these things with one horribly weak limiting factor? “ ‘Merica! I wonder if I can buy a new string.
