I’ve followed your channel for a long time but never commented. It’s quite refreshing to watch your “keep an old motorhome on the road” videos. We have 2003 Elddis 6 berth and have had almost all the same problems. Thanks for all yours (and Chaz). How to videos.

very clever ,is nice to know that technology has made it easier to produce items that are possibly no longer in stock in a world where things on the shelf change on a regular basis, if it means you can keep herman in tip top condition that can only be a good thing

Great job taken care of with 3d printing technology. They will definitely wear quicker in pla than something more exotic. If you want them printed in carbon fibre material that offers better resistance to UV and heat, then please do contact. Alternatively, please make yourself a few spares to keep in the van just in case of replacement on the road, or like I have done with spares - helped a fellow motorhomer out on site. Great video.

Don’t worry about uv damage on PLA. I’ve watched a video - I’ll send a link - that may reduce your fears. Don’t forget PLA melts at around 190c. Great fix though Ads. Top drawer from me here at ToT Andy.

ASA filament would be a good choice as it is UV resistant and strong. PETG has a bit of flexibility so would be ideal but I don't think there any PETG available with UV resistance. Nylon would be good but it's a pain to orint with as it absorbs moisture like crazy and needs drying out before printing.
@HermanHitstheRoadАй бұрын
Thanks for the printing tips, Alan 👍👍
@Addicted2carsАй бұрын
Good job! Please be so kind and share the STL file of your hinge insert.... Use PETG for it - it's UV, liquid and acid resistant :)
@HermanHitstheRoadАй бұрын
Thanks, @addicted2cars. I will share it soon. I'm not sure whether they need to be resistant to anything. They are doing OK at the moment but it's early days yet.

I need to do the same to my old Rapido, as the door hinges are almost the same externally, Our are riveted to the body, but screwed to the door. Delrin would be perfect for the job, but I don't know if it is printable, as it had self lubricating properties. I do know it machines beautifully. Only problem is I don't have a lathe or milling machine of my own. I will be heading out to Nessa shortly to remove part of a hinge to see if they are the same internal collar.
@Simon_W742 ай бұрын
Just removed a hinge completely as it wouldn't come off the door without both top and bottom hinge plates be removed and the door being pulled away. Nessa uses washers instead of the collar like Herman does. So I could make something up at home as I have some Delrin from another project with an Air Rifle where I made what is know as a Hamster and used a Delrin rod to set it of from the stock. Carved it to sit perfectly in my hand. Sadly never got to use it, as I don't shoot anymore and am going to sell the Air Rifle as no point in having it around anymore.

Your problem sounds an easier fix than ours. Did you sort it?
@Simon_W742 ай бұрын
@@HermanHitstheRoad No not yet it is on the list of things to do in the next few days. Have some jobs in the house that take precedence over Nessa, as the wife has been on at me for about a year to finish the end of the kitchen and get on with utility room.

Would be interesting to see how you design and set up a 3rd printer. Also don't you need a spacer on the top part of the hinge

@hermanhitstheroad Is there Nylon filament? That would probably be ideal for this. Alternatively printing just the tube with regular filament and then using a Nylon washer as the spacer/bearing.
@HermanHitstheRoadАй бұрын
I don't know if there is a nylon filament, @ari.voutilainen. The thing is that you want the spacer (washer part) and the inside sleeve to be connected so the sleeve doesn't travel down the hinge and pop out the other end like mine were doing.
@ari.voutilainenАй бұрын
@@HermanHitstheRoad Makes sense.
@greenwheelybin28 күн бұрын
Would a few little washers have done the trick?
@HermanHitstheRoad27 күн бұрын
Probably, @greenwheelybin but they'd have to be quite small and would be metal on metal
@kinross242 ай бұрын
Why not use stainless steel washers as the spacers? No rush and harder wearing? Or, but same size bearings as the spacers? All you need it the internal, external and hight of the bearings. Use silicone grease for lubricant. PLA is useless outside and for wear. It’s basically potato starch! Best use Polycarbonate filament is an excellent choice for use outside - it contains UV stabilizers that prevent degradation from exposure to UV light
@HermanHitstheRoad2 ай бұрын
I could have used other filament but this is all I had and it's cheap, @kinross24
