The restrict airflow a lot more than people treat them like they do. Those covers block more than half the space air molecules could have gone through prior. No higher quality is going to change that

I would prefer to use a dust cover (without holes) on top when it's switched off, that way you're guaranteed not to get any dust inside. When it's on, simply remove it so you won't have the risk of overheating, and the fan should naturally blow away any dust that tries to settle in.

@@gravestoner2488 these units are carefuly simulated without add-ons and then a thermal design solution is made. messing with even the intake could result in components not getting enough throughput due to the stock fans not having enough static pressure. Like you said, intake filters aren't bad but this isn't a PC case with 5 fans, it's a tiny computer that is very specifically cooled.

If you remove dust bigger than a certain size on the way in, you would need a higher quality filter on the way out to catch anything with it. Then what? Reduce airflow even more to keep more dust inside? If theres dust going through the exhaust, you want it to leave lol, not keep it inside. Simple to understand.

Those things do get dusty, but do not ever cover the vents in any way. Had a laser thermometer pointed directly at the fan on top. I ran Forza Horizon 4 (winter season blizzard) at max settings for 1 hour. Thing hit over 182F at the exhaust! So the SoC was probably way hotter. After getting a charging dock with a fan to push air into the back intake and cleaning the thing out (yes it was very dusty at the time) it dropped to 157F. Point is, Clean it regularly, add cooling where needed if needed, Never cover its vents.

Don't use dust covers you'll overheat your console! The xboxs design is perfect there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Maybe out a skin on it that's about it. If you want to keep up with dust get a can of air or an electric duster (way better) and use it a couple times a week and keep the console in a well ventilated area.

An Xbox can overheat due to restricted air flow and usually dust also if you have it on top of other electronics that generate Heat, or near a heat vent so it's sucking in hot air ,with some minor maintenance none of that is necessary, step one unplug the Xbox, Step 2 insert something small thin and wood in the top of the Xbox green side like a chopstick or a pencil, step 3 blow air in through the bottom and sides and top make sure you have no disc in the system before you start, a SMALL leaf blower will work or a Shop-Vac that has a blow function on it anything that can move a lot of are you will be amazed at how much dust comes out I do this once every other month to mine and it doesn't overheat anymore. The Chopstick or pencil that you put inside the top is to keep the leaf blower or whatever you're using from spinning the fan, spinning the fan using an external force can actually damage the motor that's why you stick something in there to stop it, also if you feel more air flow is needed the bass can very easily be removed using a small flathead screwdriver there are videos online on how to do this I watched one it was very easy. If you decide to use Aaron a can or keyboard dust remover in a can, make sure you give it at least a half hour before you plug it back in as this is actually a flammable gas most people don't realize! Putting a dust cover on can restrict more airflow especially if it gets covered in dust ,no offense to the video but I would stay away from dust covers.

those covers WILL block the airflow a bit..not loads..but SOME.. as anyone had these on long-term to check if they create any over heating issues?

If you don’t want to spend any money at all just do this: The dust only goes inside when the Xbox is off and the fan isn’t in use. So when it’s off just put something on top of it..anything to cover it. A magazine for example. 🤯

Advocate not to cover vents in any way when in use. If you want nt to keep the dust out of an Xbox series. X, and believe me as an x owner, I did consider, then reject aftermarket, cooling solutions, and I use the word solutions, advisedly - I realised that the console engineers knew what they were doing better than I did so in order to keep the dust out of the console whenever I don’t use it, I simply put a dust cover over it when it is turned off or on standby. On standby it does not use the fan so the dust cover or even a plastic bag is not an issue.

Surely covering the back vents will just stop any dust blowing out of the machine

Do not keep those dust covers on over your ventilation ports while playing(ESPECIALLY during long sessions) you WILL BE restricting the air flow thus creating more internal heat and making your fan run double duty! The series X is very easy to take down for simple routine dusting. There’s literally like 5 screws to be removed, and one connector to remove the back plate and fan. You do not need to do anymore than that to keep your system pretty clean internally. The board and other main components are sandwiched in pretty well and with regular routine dusting shouldn’t get much dust in there. JUST WAIT UNTIL YOUR FACTORY WARRANTY IS OVER BEFORE OPENING THE BACK PLATE!

That controller is if I own the exact one it also has 3 different controllers settings that you can switch on the controller

The trick is to just keep going, if it works it works to don't worry until you need to 😂 I've still got consoles from over 20 years ago that I havent ever cleaned or anything that all work perfectly fine

All you need to do is cover the back :/ not the top, the top is good, if thats not good enough for ya then clean it out but be careful with the ribbon cables, tricky to get them out
