I just wanted to say thank you to the person who ordered the part through my amazon link, you just made my first real youtube $1.89! Thanks so much and good luck with your car :)

I paid over $500 to have my car fixed over 1 year ago and it broke again! Found this video and fixed it in less than 1 hour. Note: Amazon will say it does not fit for the car but it does work. And Adams tip about swapping the plugs is WAY easier than cutting and soldering ever wire!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I had the same problem and the guys at Ford wanted to change both seat’s electrical heating and cooling systems, but they weren’t sure it would solve the problem as they thought it might also be from the main computer (also wanted to change it). So I fixed it at home but didn’t order the part you said, I only cleaned that connector, put a little bit of wire to make the connection better and it works flawlessly. So again thank you for your video. 🍻

So happy you managed to fix it! I don't think I could have just cleaned that molten mess of a connector, but it's awesome to hear you could! 💪🤙

This video has saved me a lot of money. I just finished fixing my MKZ and the heated/cooled seats are working again. If there's anything I can add to help the next guy is: 1) Unbolt the seat from the floor and tip it backward. It makes it a lot easier to work on instead of hunching over and reaching under the seat. 2) Be careful when pushing out the pins. They are easily damaged and you don't want bent pins when you put everything back together. 3) There's no easy way to get the burned(melted) pin retainer out. You basically have to cut out the melted part to free it up. I used a pair of wire cutters and cut out the melted area. 4) Use crimp wire connectors when splicing the two grounds together. It's a pain to solder 3 wires bent over in the car. 5) Write down the wire color pattern before taking it apart. It's easier to take all of them off the reconnect them instead of swapping one wire at a time. The basically hold their shape even after you take them out but just in case one gets shifted out of position.

Is this connector responsible for both driver and passenger seats? Or there’s one for each side?
@adamdezsi

I only had the passenger seat act up, never checked the other one. I think it may be one for each seat.

I have a 2019 Fusion and the passenger seat works fine both heated and cooled. The drivers side doesn’t work. The status lights turn on but nothing happens on either hearing or cooling. Could this be the problem? Do you work on these or know someone who does in Southern California?
@adamdezsi

It does sound very similar to what I had. I'm in San Diego but never got around to finding "a guy" as I like to work on my own cars. I'm a software engineer so sadly I don't take on projects like this but word of mouth is always great when it comes to finding a trustworthy mechanic. I usually ask in my local Facebook groups, always works wonders :)

Did you just plug the extra spliced ground to empty spot next to it. I really wish you would of showed what you did.
@adamdezsi
@adamdezsi 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, unfortunately doing this alone has some drawbacks, like not always pressing record while you're fixing a car :D On a positive note, it's a super easy thing to do, just splice the wire about 50-50, install a plug on both halves and then use the two remaining slots on the plug. If you don't know how to do this I _strongly_ recommend looking up how to splice a wire. Best of luck! :)
@TriCountyMotorSales

@@adamdezsi Did you splice the ground wire or split it and add ends creating 2 grounds from the same wire? The new connector has a heavier gauge wire in the unused spot, can they be connected together and then butt connected or spliced to the original ground wire?
@adamdezsi
@adamdezsi 2 жыл бұрын
I am so sorry, English is my second language... SPLIT is the word I was looking for. Essentially what you said first, split the original wire into two separate ends and plugged those into both the original ground and the empty slot. Hope this clears it up!

@taritai2011 I haven't pulled it apart but I found this solution deep on some forum with great feedback and drove the car for years after the fix without a problem so I suppose it does.

Do you think it is also the reason why in so many Fords the ventilated back stops working? (the bottom of the seat is getting quickly cold, the back isnt)
@adamdezsi
@adamdezsi Жыл бұрын
That could be the same issue but could be very different. This video walks you through changing a power connector to the cooling module that's burnt. Could be that yours just burned a little less so one half of the seat is still working, could be the controlling unit. I think it's still worth it to do this fix first as a hail Mary cause the other one is way more expensive. (That is given yours is charred too)

My plug looks like yours, but both seats are not working. Does fixing the one under the passenger seat fix both seats? Under the drivers seat cannot seem to find the same type of plug. Thanks!!
@adamdezsi
@adamdezsi Жыл бұрын
That sounds weird, maybe you have one controller that's either dead or not getting power. Is it the newer generation fusion? This one is 2014.

My heated seats don't work on my 2015 MKZ. I was a little confused on what you did when you say you split the ground to two different locations.
@adamdezsi
@adamdezsi 2 жыл бұрын
You'll see at the corner of the connector where the one ground wire goes in, there's another slot empty next to it. If you just split that one ground wire into two separate plugs and insert them into those into the original ground plus the empty one you're splitting the load between the two so hopefully it doesn't burn out again.
@rockys7726
@rockys7726 2 жыл бұрын
@@adamdezsi So where does that empty plug go? Is the opposite end a ground connection?
@adamdezsi
@adamdezsi 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. One goes into where the ground was originally, the second goes into the slot next to it that was unused. Not sure if Lincoln had these set up the same way but I have a feeling they did.

I don't see a reason why it should be very different unless this was a common problem and they actually fixed it between generations.

In 2020 fusion there is no module under passenger seat. Under driver seat I have DSM module but all connectors are ok. Seat heating and cooling does not work but passenger seat does work perfectly. When I'm scanning modules with forscan the DSM module is not showing up.
@adamdezsi
@adamdezsi Жыл бұрын
Wish I could help you on that, they probably changed the design between the 2 models. I've read on forums that there's a 'comfort module' that ford keeps wanting to swap when this issue occurs.
@AgeDee34

@@adamdezsi I was working on it on Saturday and actually I found out that there is a problem with my seatback heating element. I found out why forscan didn't see the module and now I can read code B14BA:13 from DSM. The code means that there is a problem with "Driver Seat Back Thermal Electric Device Circuit" so I ordered a replacement and will try to replace it. I live in Europe so the only replacement part I found was used one from 2019 Ford Mustang :D. It looks almost the same

@@adamdezsi Update: it works. I had to swap some of elements but now it works perfectly. Unfortunately I had to take the driver seat out of the car to repair this problem. So the total cost of the repair was around $100 because american parts are a little expensive in Europe. On eBay I saw the same parts for about 60-80 dollars
