I scuffed it a bit with the whole paperclip thing at the end as I couldn't get it to go all the way down the button, but I improvised and just cut it right at the millimeter point. Now my reset button has gone from not working at all to sometimes working, but I still consider the whole thing a success considering I didn't have to replace the button entirely. Thanks for the video!

Thank you so much for this video! I just did this to mine and now it works like a charm. Glad since it's my childhood unit.

Thank you! Worked a treat for me. I yeeted the metal nub out of a plastic thumbtack, hot-glued it into the center with the flat / "inside" part of the nub facing the reset switch. Filed it to be as flat as possible, resets with little effort nearly every time now. You da man!

Thanks to you, I did this over a year ago for one Genesis/Mega Drive model 2 which had a slightly recessed reset button and wasn't resetting either, but I folded a bit of plastic cable tie into the hole rather than a paper clip. I got another model 2 Genesis recently and while the reset button was not recessed, it was NOT resetting... I was lazy though by not wanting to open the case and tried 99% IPA rather than repeat the fix. I applied 99% IPA around the reset button, pressing it up and down, soak again, after 4 rounds of that the reset button sprang back to life fully. Dirty contact I guess. The console was a bit grubby when I got it.

From Buenos Aires, Argentina, thank you for the video. It was very useful.

Worked great, only thing I did different was put the folded end of the paperclip sticking out, I was afraid the sharper cut end would eventually poke through the rubber over the reset on the board. Also made it a bit easier to pinch it and pop it in, then the two prongs spread out inside the button securing it.

That is what I ended up doing too. Made the paperclip secure by adding a tiny bit of tape to the tip so it for sure would not fall out. It surprisingly fits the reset button really well!

Or if you get a super small flat head (like really small and fine) you can just clean and put back in the rubber button. Thats what I did and it works great.
@scel993 жыл бұрын
Yes I had that very same problem and I followed what you did and I have two genesis’s that work perfectly fine now thank to you

Those reset buttons are pretty old and not worth saving in my opinion. I have replaced them in my Genesis with a microswitch which works flawlessly
@JordanEppersonEveryAtomPhoto5 жыл бұрын
How did you do that? Not sure what a microswitch is. Thanks for the tip

So what exactly has caused the reset button to not work anymore? Just being dirty inside?

Thank u for the idea I did something similar to what u did just purchased the va4 Sega genesis model 2 its supposedly the best sega genesis model ever made because it has the sony encoder for optimal graphics and the best version of the Yamaha sound chip I used a safety pin I cut the one side off and put it into the switch not perfect but it works the guy I bought it from said it needed a new switch on the motherboard

Youre right I have the half board model 2 also it is far superior to other ones far as video and sound goes.

instead of a paperclip I ended up 3d printing an extender that pushes into the hole with a round nub on the end its super janky because the 3d printer isn't good at such small sizes but it did the job so I'm happy, but if anyone else wants to use my solution id be more than happy slapping the files onto thingiverse or something

It's very risky to fix an old video game console, like one mistake, your console is broken for good then you gotta find another one somewhere around the U.S. of A
@sensationalspideyfan19966 жыл бұрын
Oh, Thanks, I think I was telling a fact lol
@greenkoopa3 жыл бұрын
No way man. The only way a Sega cant be fixed is if you boil it in acid or throw it on a bonfire. Then the likelihood of fixability goes down about 12% 🤔 However, I dont like the method shown in this video. What you're poking with that paper clip is a rubber pad. How many times you think that can take getting stabbed?
@clappinmonkey09443 жыл бұрын
@@greenkoopa i agree, honestly the membrane used on these reset buttons are similar to those on controllers and they tarnish... its not to hard to gently remove the membrane to clean the contacts...worse case just replace it but i see these paperclip fixes risky and a potential electrical short waiting to happen

Sonic The Hedgehog (1991) was my first Sega Genesis game but I never had a Sega Genesis I played it on Sonic Generations then I played the other Sega Genesis games on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for the PlayStation 3

Dion Beckett my uncle had Sonic Generations on his ps3. and I had it on my 3ds but I don't have it anymore. Sonic the hedgehog 1991 was the best game. Until this day I still played sega genesis. I found this website call game oldies. You will like it. also on that website you play snes games ps1 games and others
@sensationalspideyfan19966 жыл бұрын
There's a website that emulate Sega Genesis games called ssega that s means super, anyway you can play the Genesis games but not CD and 32X

Sorry, but this is pretty uncreative crappy solution with a tendence to damage.. In spite of everybody sais "thank you". Couldn`t you just simply use the plastic gun and put a little plastic on the part which is pressing the reset..??!! This would be a much simplier and better.. And you will save 0.5 $ for not buying the button and do a proper job.
