My first thought is that the back resst bits serve no function as you can't lean back on them anyways. function always follows form. No function? Not needed. I'm typeing my thoughts as i wacth and got to the blessing the seats part and laughed out loud. Hilarious!!! the new seats look great. Thanks for the great content.

If it was me, I'd just run in a few hardwood dowels through the back and into that seat, between the screws. And use longer dowels so they would go past the line of the screws. It would further tie the back to the seat, plus reinforce the crack that the screws all in a line wedged open. But, going back to the drawing board works too. Your redesigns, like all your content, are always entertaining.

correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't the problem caused by the grain orientation? but in the new design you kept the same grain orientation, so another hit could break between the fibers the same way.

The roundover on the bottom back of the legs is a problem, it reduces footprint more than you think. If you extended the forward to back floor rails and had little knobs there, not enough to kick but to add stability. The old seat design was much more pleasing, if you routed out the bottom of the seat and glued in a piece of plywood it wouldn’t break or weigh as much. It is also possible to drill and mill out portions of the bottom structure and fill with lead, a common practice for end tables with small footprint. Or you could screw them to the floor 😁.

Blessing the new design with incense... now that's what I call going the extra mile!😄 So.. is that a procedure that needs to be repeated from time to time?.. does it wear off... or is one application sufficient for eternity? (Wouldn't want to be expecting eternal bliss, only to find out a couple of decades later that the blessing has worn out and now the piece is a dang thing, instead of a regular thing.)
