In part 1 of this 2 part video I take a look a 2 Nintendo Game Boy's that have both been stored for a long time with alkaline batteries installed, which have leaked into them.

Grew up with a yellow gameboy, always glad to see one revived! We always joked about how the gameboy and other nintendo products where made out of Nintendium, a indestructible substance

Well unfortunately the Yellow one didn't do as well as I would have liked. I can guarantee you now that the Game Boy is not indestructible, but that said, it's managed to survive some nasty battery damage, so it's a pretty hardy little thing. They seem to be pretty well constructed (for the time), built down to a price, but well made. They don't have leaky capacitors that plague all the SEGA Game Gears.

A Gameboy's mortal enemy is the battery.

Well, at least they are not soldered to the board like all those Amigas and other computers that got destroyed by battery leakage.

so you know about the vinegar + table salt rust removal trick I see :)

it relies on the hcl + fe2o3, hcl formed by the acetic acid with the nacl

I've actually got a small bottle of Oxalic acid if I need to remove rust.
