Hello Vern this video wasn't boring. You showed what the damage was and what needed doing and what you did. Yes I could imagine you trying to sleep when hot, Ramadan music Playing loud, Fiberglass powder all over you. Very uncomfortable. Important thing is you got the necessary repairs and more done. Now you are back in water ready to get back at it. What you did is still Learning by Doing style. Yes Marie must have been real hot and uncomfortable carrying Eli around in the carrier. He seemed by what I could tell in a good mood. Okay you 3 take it easy catch you next video

Awesome job! Glad to see you back on the water again, with your family! I would monitor the port prop shaft after limited straightening, as any vibrations may cause gear box (Transmission) problems that could be problematic. Much love to you and your family ❤
@SailingLearningByDoing8 ай бұрын
Good call! I've been keeping an eye on it. The shaft is 3m long and the bend was at the end furtherest away from the gearbox so I'm not worried about that. More than likely it will cause the bearing in the skeg to wear faster than the other side but thats not a great drama. I've motored about 15 hrs since being back in the water and cant feel any difference.

You're lucky when you think about it, most people who tangle with reefs in 60 knots abandon a sinking ship. Besides the bent shaft the rest could be done by yourself. Same deal when you went almost head on with a floating apartment, you got out of that pretty good when all factors are taken into account. Just shows you no matter your level of seamanship the ocean will always get you somehow. My biggest fright was pushed up against and into a heap of mangroves in a blow, besides some embarrassment all went fairly well with minimal damage.
@SailingLearningByDoing8 ай бұрын
Believe me, I think about it all the time. I've been sorta lucky my whole life I guess. Had many mishaps and accidents but here I am, still relatively fit and healthy. Last night we got hit by a 150ft steel ferry while at anchor and got very lucky again. Hopefully it'll be plain sailing from here.
@Antipodean338 ай бұрын
@@SailingLearningByDoing You got hit by a 150 foot steel ferry??? What the, I suppose that will be in your next vid so I won't ask any questions. Oh well that's the proverbial 3 things, the near head on with a floating apartment, the reef encounter and now the 150 foot steel ferry near disaster. Things come in threes, so you've made it through. Can't wait to hear this ferry tale, as with most negatives in life there's a couple of positives to be found, which are coming out of these things unscathed physically is a win, and it also means you aren't struggling for content lol. Looking forward to the next clip. The young fella is having a baptism of fire into the sailing life, great stuff champ

I'm amazed at how they straightened that propeller shaft. Do you plan on replacing it so that it doesn't mess up your barring. I'm sure that it does have a little vibration which can't be good.
@SailingLearningByDoing8 ай бұрын
Here in Indo you do what you can, there aren't many options. I recently changed out the bearings and will keep an eye on them now. No shaft is completely straight. What really matters is the speed in which it's turning. At 10k revs any vibrations will be very noticeable. A sailboats prop is turning very slowly. My cruising speed is 2500 engine revs which is 1250 revs at the prop.
@robertlaird67468 ай бұрын
@@SailingLearningByDoing Are you able to keep it at normal cruising speeds or greater with the fixed shaft or will you have to replace it soon?
@SailingLearningByDoing8 ай бұрын
@@robertlaird6746 its going great so far. Done about 15hrs at normal (2500) speed and everything seems normal, no extra vibration. I dove on it yesterday and there's no extra play. Win
