you should repaint bumper and hood, it's not big money and will look like new again.

maybe as a long term option. For now, I just wanted it to be "acceptable"

agreed, just way to many dings to do it this way.

Spraying a panel will never match the existing colour. Never, no matter who prepps the paint. In direct sunlight it will look different. It's not a matter of glaze/shine, it has to do with the glitter in the paint, the metallic, which no one can match perfectly, not to mention the base of the paint.
@joshcardno9964 жыл бұрын
@@MrAlpinab7 I eye match colours edge to edge for high end refinishing everyday so yes it's possible. Solids, metallics, pearls and candys. They have to match inside and outside and under a M.o.s.e s lamp to check for metamerism under different light sources. Dont think it cant be done, it can!
@MrAlpinab74 жыл бұрын
@@joshcardno996 i thought it could be done, but in this part of the world, where i live, there's only idiots. I should have mentioned that, that it cannot be done HERE. Elsewhere it seems it's possible....😂

Had your BMW been repainted at some point? Did it have a clear coat finish? Did you thin the touchup paint before putting it in the pen? Got my touch-up paint earlier in the week and yesterday I received a two-pack of these Loew-Cornell pens, and am getting ready to start this process on my M-B. Thanks for doing this video - it is very helpful.

Looks good. If you're keeping the car long term, obviously budget for a front end respray, but for now it looks nice.

Did you have rust in any of the spots, and if so, did you remove the rust before applying paint? :)

Do you live on a gravel road and followed the gravel truck too close when he re-graveled the road? I've never seen road rash that bad!

Great Video. Question, how do you clean the Loew-Cornell Painting Pen when you are done using it? I ask because I have two vehicles with two different colors I wanted to use this for. If anyone could comment, let me know. Thank you!
@asceasce29874 жыл бұрын
Clean the cup well and stem after each use by soaking in warm water. To clean inside the stem, use the thin metal needle and push it through the stem. Rinse pen and dry well! Never leave paint in the cup well to thicken and dry.

Wow, that looks like a lot of work but the results look decent. I'm ordering one today. For new paint, have you considered a 3M clear wrap? When the wrap looks bad, you remove it and re-apply. I've been using clear wrap for 6 years on two cars (a 3 and a 2 series) and it's saved the front part of my hood on multiple occasions. Sand blasted bumper? History. Sure $600 for a clear sticker for a hood and bumper seems like a hell of a lot of money. Then again, I'm a bit lazy. Perfect investment. For non-wrapped parts of the car, looks like detail pen beats Sloppo-The-Cheap-Paint-Brush included in every touch up kit.

Clear film is great. But only if the bumper doesn’t have chips yet. If this was a new bumper I would probably but some clear film on it

How long will the repair last? Do you need to use the solution to complete the process?
@alterego4675 жыл бұрын
Random opinion: I think that it still looks pretty bad. Not as bad as before but still... Maybe you could overfill the chips with that paint, wet sand it until its flush with the surrounding paint and then polish it.
@alterego4675 жыл бұрын
Or just get it repainted. It‘s not that expensive and you will have a spotless M5🥰

TSTK 28 I think it looks even worse than before. There’s also rust kicking in over where the headlights are, so i would just fix and paint the whole hood.

What a waste of time just spend the money and get the front end painted

im going to do this but add wet sanding with a polish to see better results.

Pretty cool, what about applying the clearcoat after?
@computiNATEor5 жыл бұрын
If you're referring to the "Seal Act" stuff in the kit, it's not so much a clear coat as it is a mild solvent that will lift any excess paint.
@ShiftedPerspective5 жыл бұрын
I don’t see a need to do that in this instance.

Quick tip; if you want the camera to focus on something small and up close, hold your whole hand behind the item. You can see the makeup/beauty folks of KZbin doing that to show small objects.

Paint Pen is great tool. How about Vertical surfaces? NOTE: If you never tailgate you never get chips. Double the recommended 1 car length per 10 mph and I mean NO chips. In the rain it is much worse since spray holds dirt in the air longer.

One thing thats not mentioned is that for metallic painted cars, this isnt that a great solution as the tip is so fine that it prevents some of the metallic to come through. Just something to bear in mind, Larry mentioned this too.
