Good to see you back Ben. When are you going to insulate your workshop. That would be a good video to watch, as all of your videos are.

You are very kind. Not sure when I would insulate the workshop or exactly how. Still thinking about it. Many thanks for watching!

You are very welcome Ken. They are interesting machines but like all machines they are a collection of simple machines. If you now how one machine works you can work out how another one works.

I like sewing machines and I wish I had enough room (and money) for a big collection, but correct tension is often a frustration. Thanks for showing us this bobbin tension adjustment, that's completely new to me. Thanks again Ben, an education as always.
@BensWorkshop10 ай бұрын
You are welcome! You don't need to fiddle with it usually but it is there. You can always get the bobbin carrier out, but the how depends on the style of machine, whether the bobbin is horizontal on the plate or vertical as in this example. You only need the tinyist of adjustments though. Many thanks for watching again!

Sewing machines have some lovely engineering lurking beneath those rather plain covers, and we all like a bit of good old engineering. Nice to see the tension sorted Ben.
@BensWorkshop10 ай бұрын
There is indeed and that is where I suspect the source of the machine being tired lays. The motor seems fine which is just as well as I would have to make a tool to open it. I suspect it just lacks sewing machine oil. Many thanks for watching!
@GrumpyTim10 ай бұрын
That would make sense, dried oil (or a lack of oil) seems to be the source of most issues on equipment like this.
@BensWorkshop10 ай бұрын
Very much so. Even with a 60 Watt motor.

Nice to see you back Ben . I’ve got into sewing simple things like covers for machinery and a dog bed . I’ve an old Singer that I can’t get the tension working ok . You’ve inspired me to have another go at it .
@BensWorkshop10 ай бұрын
I am please to hear it! There is only 2 places to set tension, top (easy) and bottom a little trickier. Another issue can be using to heavy or light a thread for the material being sewn.
@NickandMildred10 ай бұрын
@@BensWorkshop Thanks for that Ben , it infuriated me for a while so I gave up on it - but I’ll give it another go . :-)
@BensWorkshop10 ай бұрын
What sort of bobbin carrier have you got?
@NickandMildred10 ай бұрын
@@BensWorkshop sorry , just seen your reply … It’s one of the old black Singer machines . The bobbin carrier is under a shiny sliding plate that has a button to angle one side up to make it easer to remove the bobbin .
@BensWorkshop10 ай бұрын
Ah. An old manual machine. Not sure how you get the bobbin carrier out but they do come out. That is where the tension will be set for the bottom.

I don't mind the fixing, but I hope this channel doesn't start doing sewing videos.
@BensWorkshop10 ай бұрын
Don't panic! It isn't going to change in to a sewing channel! Though there might be a video involving sewing but only if I think it might be of interest to enough of the channels viewers. There is one more fixing video on this one to come though. Many thanks for watching!
