If you haven't used chimney long time then it's full of moisture and if the moisture starts to evaporate then it takes many times more volume than in liquid form so there is no room for smoke to go up. If you start to use it regularly it dries up and you got no problems with it anymore. I had same issue, if it happens best to do is to take electric heat gun and blow heat with it into base of chimney where you have opening for cleaning it and it starts drafting with short time.

I have one of those external metal chimneys. It's double walled and insulated but that doesn't help when it is really cold out. Cold air falls down the chimney and when I start a fire, the cold air forces the smoke into the house instead of it going up the chimney. I have a method to preheat the chimney that is really simple. I have a small tin can which I pout about a centimeter (3/8 inch) of ethanol into. I set it in the stove and set it on fire. It burns a while, generates a ton of heat, warms the stove/chimney and even if it backdrafts into the house, it's smokeless. After ten or fifteen minutes, it has burned out and I remove it with the tongs. I usually set the can right on top of the wood so that once I remove the can, I can instantly light the wood before everything cools off again. This system has worked like a charm for two winters now. I bought the ethanol cheap in a ten liter canister and have only used about half of it.

i had a problem when installing a natural gas stove in a cathedral ceiling room. the Stove safety system would shut down...Turns out that the stove pipe has to be 6 feet or more above the heated space...a draft problem...gotta be something like that with you guys...With a complicated system..the daily atmospheric pressure variation can have an effect..

Not sure what that water is for. Mine is always fussy starting. I use a vacuum blower to get the air flowing till the chimney warms up and starts drawing well. Never seen a stove like yours. What country do you live in? Does the heat go through all that brickwork? Bet that stays warm a long time.

When making pottery which has to be exposed to fire, like pots, the clay needs at least 70pct sand. Lime of any kind spalls if switching between fire and wet, which is why you don't use cement under blacksmithing, it acts like exploding River rocks in a camp fire, over and over, as the heat turns it back into anhydrous lime, then on water back into cement, but trapping water inside. Sorry rambling. Point is, use lots of sand, straw (for air gaps after they char) or crushed charcoal in clay for anything over 540c (1000 f). So probably ok as is, if it works the first few times. I think chimneys are often 2/3 temp near the stove, but that can run away a 1/3 more over in really high wind (moving the burn box zone out of the stove and into the chimney) or if the creosote catches. Enjoy you vids!
@blacksilverlight6 күн бұрын
Ack. I rambled past my point. The reason for the sand is it lowers the chance of thermal shock. However, as you saw, it's not going to crack and shatter while it's still soft. It's still supposed to get a burn in with a longer hotter fire that sinters the clay and sand,( as opposed to vitrification where it'd become ceramic). However, in a chimney, most parts aren't going to get past 700c which is where that starts. Therefore, that mix is really for down where the fire actually burns.

8:26 - Hmmm... That looks like an attic space air ventilator. If so, It is not fire chimney rated for the heat from such exhaust gases. There are correct and proper rotary vents for a chimney but I doubt this is one. I will not even comment about how bad it may be to stack wood directly against a wood stove without clearance .... 😱 : 12:00
@DoBeDiff3 күн бұрын
So this is a chimney ventilator and it's stainless steal with heatproof bearing. The wood stove isn't a normal stove, it's a wood burring boiler so it means the outside of the stove is only as warm as the water inside around 65 degrees so no damage can be caused, you can safely touch the stove all around except the exit flue.
@SaintCoemgen3 күн бұрын
@@DoBeDiff First --- of course I only said it "looks" like a an attic air space ventilator, I was not certain. Care to provide the manufacturer and model so others can consider using this if it is fire rated? Second - I know of no wood stove, even a water boiler model, that has a zero side clearance. But of course I do not know about all wood water heater stoves. Can you provide the make and model, or even better a link to the manual for your stove that shows this zero clearance is allowed for this stove? That would be much appreciated for my edification. Hope this helps.
