That was very shoddy of the high top company getting silicone everywhere. Yor van is now very shiny, you did a good job cleaning it. Will be great for you to get on the road again. Loren is a star fixing your van. Kelly loved those fishy treats it was funny to see her zooming towards them 😊

One important lesson of my van life was that, just as a bricks and mortar home requires maintenance (sometimes expensive) like a new roof, hot water heater, foundation/drainage repair, or just fresh exterior paint, so does a van. Saving or setting aside an emergency fund is important. Your van is looking really sharp! Try a 'black' restoring polish product for other black plastic components (licence plate holder, grill below windshield, etc) - it worked well for me, even on my bumpers. I would refresh the black plastic parts whenever I sealed up the fiberglass top with the boat/rv product.

That was not so good of a sealing Job. Glad you we able to get it removed without damaging the paint. The high top roof leak is getting solved is awesome. Engine issues can at times be hard to resolve and determine the proper fix. But you have a very competent mechanic. Your home is looking very shiny now. Thank you for sharing. That's my question too. Idk much about marine spec products but clearly silicone seems a household grade (fine given paired for the very distinct functions required i.e. non-moving building. Yesterday & today we discovered our 2nd-hand camper has a mess of sealant & idk what @ joints/seams. Right after we moved it to new location, was enough to rattle loose... Ugh

Good job. You will be really glad that you put all this time / work and money into your van when you come back and it cleans up easier. Sounds like a great summer, and even better when you know the van is in good shape! So sad about the fires in BC, especially if they are saying it’s going to be worse than last year. Nice that you have a good space for Loren to work and you to do some maintenance on the van! Hopefully it all gets done soon. Kitty seems to be loving it!! I love your cat very much. I think I told you I have a cat too. My cat is old and lazy but she is very affectionate and I love that. You are very blessed having the mechanic you've got. There aren't many like him and probably none who would let you and kitty stay there while your van is being worked on. He seems to be very thorough. I think he has your best interest at heart and that is great.

You might want to add support to bumper like Chrome did. Your factory bumper mounts are not built to handle the stress of that weight on top of the bumper.

You should get some hub caps for the rims and zip tie them to the rims so they do not fall off. Would make a world of difference to the look of the exterior.

If that high-top leaks again, you might consider taking it to a reputable installer and have it completely removed and reinstalled. At a certain point, patching the problem just becomes a never-ending exercise in futility.

Don't know if your interested but many community colleges have classes made especially for women to learn to do much of the simple stuff themselves and know enough for the rest to keep from being ripped off by the bad shops etc.

I love Kelly playing! The real sign of an amateur is that they used silicone. Don't use silicone on a vehicle! Lap sealant is the preferred sealant! Silicone can cause issues with painting and not sticking to surfaces over time. It's just bad.
