How to replace an a/c clutch on a Chevrolet Silverado without removing the pump!!!
Have you ever thought of just replacing your a/c clutch on your gm truck?
Why would you want to change the a/c clutch, or replace the a/c pump coil on your Chevy or GMC truck?
Well on this particular Chevy Silverado, the coil and went bad and the clutch did not engage anymore. You could also replace the a/c clutch only, if the pulley bearing goes bad.
In this video I'll show you how you can replace your air conditioning clutch while the pump is still installed in the vehicle. That way, you don't have to evacuate the system (remove the gas) and later refill it.
So if you only replace the a/c clutch on your GMC truck or Chevy truck, you will save yourself a lot of money. if you are saving money, you won't have to make money 😉
And after the rad fan and the fan shrouds have been removed, you actually do have some good access to the ac clutch.
If you want the same a/c clutch kit, you can check the link out right here:
a/c clutch kit - amzn.to/47XT6lc
This clutch kit should work for your Chevy Silverado from 2000 to 2008 and till 2009 on your GMC Sierra.

Channel Overview:
In this channel I will show how to repair your vehicle or other vehicles yourself. I will also show you, teach you some trick what to look for at certain jobs and try to explain the best I can, on why I do it the way I do it. You will see links of the most of the tools and the parts, at good quality and reasonable cost, that I am using in the description of every video (It may be not the exact tool or product, but that has the same function. So, it may be just a different brand). If any torque specs or other specs are mentioned in the video, they will also be found in the description. I am a self-employed mechanic myself, with a garage on my property. So here I am recording how I repair and trying to help you repair your customer vehicles and also how to fix your own vehicle and save a lot of dollars. So, every video is intended to be a great ‘Do It Yourself (DIY)’ tutorial to save money.

@lanewright1143 I just powered the clutch directly, hotwired it basically. And if it clicks then the issue is on the vehicle side, if it doesn't it is from the connector to the clutch somewheres. Most likely the clutch. That makes sense?

If one has access to a recovery/fill machine, it would be easier to replace the AC clutch with the existing compressor on the bench. Normally, you're a sea pump internals do not move, there are stationary, as long as the AC is off. But when you turn your AC on, your clutch engages and your ac compressor internals start moving. So I would say, it's more likely your compressor.

@@AutoTechWorld_DIY I was able to perform this job well somewhat. I used a mirror to help me see the snapping seating. When it came to the coil I was unable to get that snap ring so I ended up just doing the pulley and clutch portion knowing my coil was working fine anyways. I’d like to say my noise is officially gone and my ac still works great. The only negative outcome is I should have put sun screen on

My clutch is not engaging at all could this be the issue before i spend on a new compressor? My ac was so cold and out of no where the clutch stopped working

It could be that, or it could be a fuse. Make sure all your fuse are good before you start doing anything big. And also make sure your relay works.

Maybe you have the wrong shims in? Did you measure the gap? Can you the center piece by hand when the truck is off?

My Tahoe compressor cools but its noisy and getting noisier i removed the belt, with belt off the pully has resistance but it will turn is that the bearing in the pully?

Does the noise change if the AC is on or off? If it is noisy while the compressor is engaged, then it is inside your compressor. But if it is noisy when you're compressor is not engaged, then it is more likely to be your bearing. Does that make sense?

Can't you just add a new shim, within spec's, instead of changing everything to get rid of noise?

@@AutoTechWorld_DIY Thank You! And nope I didn't have it. The big snap ring just wouldn't go on for the reinstall. The new one or the old one. Nothing I did could get it seated in the groove. Yes I made sure the curved beveled edge was facing me, racing the front of the truck when installing and the flat part towards the firewall. I don't know if the two sets of snap ring pilers just did a poor job of spreading the snap ring. I hope to try again tomorrow to maybe find a new snap ring and hopefully get this job finished. I honestly feel so defeated. No project has done me like this especially in this heat too.
