I love my Saturns. Had a hard time finding a 3rd gen SC2 in AZ. Glad you are restoring it. I found one that had been used as a parts car. Restoring it has been interesting.

Enjoyable video I have a high idle I have to fix. If you're wheel wells are filling up with water, take off your trunk seal clean it and then reseal it when you put it back on. Have a great day 🤠

I had the same problem with my 99 which just turned over 98,000 miles I had to change the IAC valve twice because the first one was obviously bad. The second one absolutely blew apart into pieces so I had to change it again, but it fixed my high idle problem.

I completely rebuilt the throttle body and never had this problem come back, also it helped to buy decent replacement sensors.

I had to do the same on my 1997 Saturn SC2. The revs would shoot up to 2,000 RPM whether I had the clutch engaged or disengaged. I would have to stab the accelerator when I got to stop lights for the revs to drop down to 800 RPM (like an old 1980's carburetor with an electric choke). I did the same things you did, but I went the extra step and also cleaned out the EGR valve. After I installed everything back, it ran like brand new. Good job.

I have 2001 Saturn SL2. On cold start it is 1.0 - 1.1 kRPM, pretty much what you have after the cleaning. The car drives well, but code P0401 comes, like after 50 mi. The scanner says: clean EGR passages. I replaced EGR, then removed it about 2 times for cleaning, not much there. I also cleaned Throttle Body, replaced TPS sensor. After driving RPM goes down to 800. Sometimes P0401 code comes in combination w/ P0037, and I replaced the Down stream O2 sensor about 2 years ago (OEM). I would appreciate any opinion on this matter. Thank you for the great film.

@@mattdiesel2294 It does, but I think the problem was so simple as plugged w/some small piece of smth the fuel return line. I noticed it only after replacing the Fuel Filter. And before I replaced the Fuel Pump, Fuel sensor there, and replacing the Charcoal Canister. Secondary Air Pump I've replaced as well for any chance. It is next to the Compressor.

@@olenaerhardt7725 Do me a favor, take your exhaust manifold off, completely... Along with that secondary air injection port line that hooks into the exhaust manifold... You will need to unclog those by hand.. As they are clogged by carbon... Currently experiencing this with 02 SL2..

@@mattdiesel2294 Thank you, but the problem w/that code is solved long time ago. Port line was cleaned. The exhaust I plan to remove in the future, would be good to clean of course, but for right everything is fine w/Saturn in the sense of P0401, no code anymore, no other codes. The car eats oil between oil changes, but replacement of Piston Rings is currently beyond my DIY level.

IIUC, if the throttle body has been removed, cleaned and reinstalled, and the IAC is new, then the coolant temperature sensor is suspect.

It only idled high in park and neutral only ? I have a new motor swap and it’s idling at 1500 rpm and I have done everything other than clean the throttle body completely. I have done the IAC valve and swapped it with my old one that I know was working fine on the duplicate old motor. It’s driving me crazy! Cold start it idles low and once I get going the car runs fine with no problems. I am going to clean the throttle body and see if it helps. Maybe a vacuum leak but I can’t find one

I would start bleeding the system, if that doesn't help I would replace the slave and clutch master cylinder. I would start on the not so expensive stuff first. Before a new clutch and throw out bearing.

Yes, it helped me when I did it, just make sure you mark where the TPs sensor is at so you are able to put it back in the same place, because it is adjustable and it throw everything off and make it worse than before.

Thanks for the video. My 2000 SL2 Idles at 1.5 - 2K sometimes. And it's weird . if i go an park, and start up again, it'll be at the regular 800 rpm idle. If i had a huuuge vacuum leak i think i would definitely know right? So if all she needs is a tune up, awesome!

I have a 2000 saturn SL1, new TPS, new IAC valve, fixed the only vacuum leak I could find, still getting a high idle after the car warms up but it does it at random. Sometimes it's normal and then I can be sitting there in the car and I hear a barely audible click and then it idles up to anywhere from 1500 to 2200 rpms. Any ideas?

I would start checking around the throttle body, you can take a spray bottle and spray around the throttle body and see if it changes idle or you see air escaping. Did you check the voltage on the tps before you took it off or marked it so you put it back where it was?

@@JCMotiveGarage Yes, the TPS is new and working, I think the new IAC valve is bad because I performed a simple test and there was absolutely no change. I have ordered a new one.

It didn't fix it, in fact it made the issue twice as bad. Put the old one back on and gave the car away for about half of what I hoped to get. I won't be buying anymore GM products.

The sc1 was a single overhead cam and the sc2 was the dual overhead cam.

Taemar Weaver take out the throttle position sensor and see if you clean it with some throttle body cleaner. There is 2 screws on the throttle body. When you take it out make sure you pay attention to which way it turns out because that's the way it will go back in. Square piece of the sensor in the slot and turm the sensor till the screw lines back up. If that doesn't help replace it. I would check your vacuum hoses when rubber hoses get hot they swell up and could produce a vacuum leak
