Honestly I think it’s a good idea to have animals in the roster that are competing for the same niche. While for carnivores that isn’t an issue and is already happening, herbivores don’t have the incentive to attack and kill each other, unless it’s stego population control. If devs add an incentive for competing herbivores to fight for resources, having several herbivores fit in the same niche would actually improve the gameplay for plant-eaters to a great extent. Because right now the only source of entertainment for herbivores is gathering in megapacks and hunting down any predator they see, which results in another problem - predators preferring to hunt other predators instead of herbivores. Obviously herbivores irl don’t kill each other, unless it’s a horny aggressive male attacking everything he sees because he’s hangry, but this is a video game. And I’m pretty sure in the current iteration of lore human minds were implanted into dinosaurs, so behaviour like that would be justified either way.

I’m gonna say something unpopular but needed. I think it’s good and even necessary that we keep all ceratopsians. The reason is cause the devs decided to have all Dino’s be size accurate. It’s because of this that dibble cannot on its own be an adequate mid tier ceratopsid. Diabloceratops is actually very small for its kind, only 15 ft long and barely over 1000kg, for perspective that’s the same length as a pachy. Styracosaurus is more modestly sized, pachyrhinosaurus is among the largest centrosaurines, and triceratops is among the largest ceratopsids period. In short, a Diabloceratops has no shot against anything larger than a carno unless it was silly. The isle hardly even has one “mid tier” in its planned roster. There’s the smaller ones around carno/teno size, ones in the middle around allo size, and the larger ones like para/acro. The size differences between these tiers are quite big and the smaller mid tiers are unlikely to interact much with the larger ones, making them feel much more like small tiers in the future. But having all these Dino’s in between the small tiers and the apexes helps smooth the gap better. And having a ceratopsid in each tier helps there be more herbivore options rather than there be so many carnivores, and there’s already a limited amount of herbivores without them.

I feel like making styrac a glass cannon to some degree in the sense that if you avoid the initial jab(make the jab do a huge amount of bleed but a long cool down) then again kentro will probably be like that

Pachyrhinosaurus gameplay would be closer to a tanky Pachycephalosaurus on 4 wheels, while Trike is a heavy weight pierce/bleed dammage dealer i see Pachy as a Impact/Fracture dammage dealer. Pachy will probaly be faster and have less health compared to Trike which will be slower and have more health.

1:17 In my totally unbiased opinion, Suchomimus is necessary for the Isle. Jokes aside, the fact that sucho is considered by some as a synonym of cristatosaurus or baryonyx means that it wouldn't be a big deal if it gets removed from the roster.

Last I checked its still hotly disputed whether or not Suchomimus is synonymous with Cristatusaurus. In fact I haven't heard anything about that in at least a few years with the name "Suchomimus" still being used often to refer to that animal. Would be kinda weird if Suchomimus, an animal we KNOW wasn't a great swimmer by spinosaurid standards, was another species of Baryonyx, which we KNOW is a spectacular swimmer even by spinosaurid standards

Idk. I think having different dinos for the same niches are alr. Like kentro and styrac, i like styrac more so ill prob play it more than kent. But if ppl like kent more they can play that instead of styrac. Which I think is a win win.

Protoceratops seems cool although it shares a niche with too many other dinos. I don't fully understand your arguement with styracosaurus, it is almost 3 times the size of kentro and it is primarily offensive as opposed to the kentro which is defensive. If there is a reason to exclude it, I would say it would have more to do with it's very weird position being a large midteir. It isn't really helped by the fact of that it really can't spar in the same way the other ceratopsians can because of the large nasal horn which means it would either have no sparring mechanic or they would have to take a greater amount of time trying to make a unique sparring mechanic that allows it spar with other ceratopsians but also doesn't look stupid.

Honestly I’d replace Ava with proto and give the burrow stealing and omnivore diet to it. It’s just a more unique looking dino for the roster. Ava has always been a weird addition to me since it basically looks and functions like a mini Diablo. So I’d much rather have proto. I’d also rather have styraco to dibble but that’s just a 100% personal bias.

There are two criteria I have that would justify in my mind removing a playable from the roster. 1. Creature is impossible/unreasonable to balance EX: titanoboa 2. Creature is inherently boring/pointless EX: orodromeus Having two playables being very similar is not inherently a bad thing. When I see that I think of shadow fighters from smash bros or a different skin/subclass. It adds variety which I consider one of this game's strengths. It might negatively impact balance, but I think this game was never going to be a perfectly balanced game. Unpopular take: If suchomimus and acrocanthosaurus are going in the game, add tarbosaurus too. Sucho and acro were always in an uncomfortable position. They have the food requirements and stature of an apex, but not the power of them. I would suggest removing both sucho and acro due to balance reasons. Acro would be clapped by a giga, and sucho would be clapped by a spino, what niche do they succeed in? I don't know the answer, so depending on their implementation I would remove them from the roster. If they don't have a niche besides a discount apex, remove them. If they do have a niche, keep them and add tarbosaurus. It's a really cool dinosaur, and yes it's essentially a smaller rex, but you could say the same about acro and giga. So if acrocanthosaurus can get a good niche, I'm sure tarbosaurus could too.

Ok, let's pretend that they can complete that whole roster. Assuming that the server count stays at 100, and there's like over 60 playables (I think) with everyone loving every dino equally, virtually NO ONE is gonna find another member of their same species to group with. UNLESS they pull a PoT. Path of Titans, despite having a pretty large roster, doesn't really have this issue because animals of a similar genus (such as ceratopsians, tyrannosaurids, etc.) can all group together and give each other buffs, kinda like despite being full of different species, they can be treated as the same animal, making the roster look big when in reality it's actually decently sized. And PoT takes it a step further by letting any carni group with any carni and Andy herbi group with any herbi, but it's an MMO experience, not a hard-core survival. The Isle though, doesn't allow this, and you can only group with members of your EXACT species. So really, there's no way this big of a roster is realistically achievable and I agree with you heavily. I remember PunchPacket on discord saying MAYBE animals of the same genus could maybe group together via mutations, but even then this roster is just massive. Idk if that would be enough.

Avaceratops is 4 meters long and weight between 700 Kg and 1.2 Tons. HOW do you justify an animal the size of a freaking cow living in burrows and hope that it makes sense is beyond my comprehension. Once again Until those dinos are out, you wouldn't really know if they would be the same or not And I've seen this a hundred times and I'm guessing it'll never end It's just like back when people were discussing how the devs should remove acro from the game because he looks the same as giga and presumably would do the same thing as giga, most likely they thought that because they all have the creativity of a 4 year old and it wasn't until the concept art that came that showed acro doing something completely different that people finally change their mind and never mentioned him to be out again And I'm just waiting until they do the same with every ceratopsians and not just them but also everything else, just to shut people off once and for all

There's absolutely nothing wrong with sharing your personal concerns on a public platform. I struggle to understand what your aversion to that is. Also, acro is still a poorly designed playable that essentially copies rex with extra steps. Obviously no one can know until they come out if they'll be good or not, but my point is that we should focus on a smaller goal first to keep players happy with the progress and keep the devs from slowing down their game development with a bloated roster and difficult balancing. If they come out and are fantastic, I'd love that, but my point is we should narrow our goal because realistically the devs cannot make a 50 playable game within any reasonable time frame or ever hope to balance it when the balancing is iffy already.

I prefer to say that this is a great opportunity for a lot of diversity in community servers for whoever wants to play and enjoy whatever they want Concidering that not to long ago they mentioned how community would be allowed to change the balance of creatures, combine that with the ability to remove whatever dino you want and you'll get the server you always wanted And not just for you but for everybody Not everybody enjoys the same thing and I don't think that's a secret, so how are you gonna make everybody happy? Well give them a huge roster, allow them to customize whatever they wish and boom, you get whatever is you want from whatever playable you desire Oh you don't like apexes? That's fine, cheak out this server that has no apexes Oh you don't like small dinos? cheak out this servers, it doesn't Oh you want creatures that make the perfect ecosystem with the dinosaurs that are you favorite, by also having the ability to adjust how they'll play in you're server? Perfect, now you can do that So again, do tell me I may wrong into thinking that way? or should everybody have to expirence the same dinos in every server with a certain balance that may work for some, may not work for others and have people constantly complaining about how this dino should be like that and how this should be removed? Because last time I cheak, legacy absolutely nailed that concept, in fact they nailed it so hard it drove itself 6 feet deep underground Yeah idk about you, but I prefer the diverse way and ngl, I think most would prefer the one that is more diverse too

@@shaxo5364 Content creators do love to make things like these for point A - criticizing The Isle is almost as simple as breathing and many players are already on a bandwagon of hatred or disappointment (which is actually valid in some cases) point B - it creates a discussion + talks about the game at least keep ppl somewhat updated while channels can grow point C - it is heavily hypothetical at this state of development so there is plenty of room for assumptions and subjective opinions that are easy to come up with point D - even if assumptions turn out to be wrong, there is a room for another video where that topic can be talked about again so it is just another + for content creator To me, the so called roster bloat is not that much of an issue. It seems that everything what has already existed in legacy has more of a priority now too except of some special critts like ptera or deino with unique mechanics. The next phase for roster has potential to be developed in a quicker pace if the talks about setting up paths with mechanics for similar creatures are true and nothing else will go wrong. Triceratops for example has already some base code in it and once diablo is fully finished then trike should follow without any issue so the point about getting not very interesting creatures first and favorites as last is not that much of a problem, especially when the favorites are apexes and some of them are already further in development. Another thing ppl tend to oversee is even the base stats of a creature. This is tricky but if set up correctly, you can end up with basically the same playable but in a different category. Is that a problem? Lets say allo turns out to be something like a much bigger omni that can latch on side of a stego in a similar way to bleed it out. The only difference could be in base stats like HP, speed, stam drain + regen, dmg output, water and hunger level and last but not least the growth duration. That already is a big difference.
