I have 4 Rossi's, and the tubes and feeding gate all loosen up after a box or two of rounds for even the most stiff rifle I bought. Most were worked in just fine after 20 rounds. I own a 20 inch stainless R92 .454 Casull, a 20 inch blued R92 in .357 Mag, a blued 24 inch octagon barrel .44 Mag R92, and a R95, blued 20 bbl .30-30. I adore all of them. Best rifles in their price range bar none. I'm hunting down an R95 in .45-70 now. Sold out, but I'll get one soon. Do not hesitate people. The Rossi's are amazing rifles. Save the money you'd spend on a Winchester Miroku and buy one of these. You won't regret it. I actually found my Miroku was super ammo picky. These Rossi's aren't ammo picky so far as I've seen. All the ammo I could not get to run in my Miroku Winchester has all long since been shot out of my Rossi. I sold the Winchester. Too picky on ammo. Beautiful doesn't count, when a rifle is selective on what it'll fire.

I know there's a video has been around for a while but I just wanted to say thank you. Thanks to this video I was able to fix my Rossi 92 in the exact same way by trimming the magazine spring and adding a plug made from a plastic coat hanger. Now it loads much easier and I don't have to worry about the last round getting stuck three quarters of the way into the loading gate
@2pugman6 ай бұрын
I need to try this cure. The inside edge needs to be ground down just a bit to allow easier loading. I spoke to Rossi and they informed me that the problem will cure itself after repeated use. I explained to the rep that I'm 82 and I may not live long enough to find out !
@hardball107 Жыл бұрын
I have 2 Rossi R92's, one in 454 Casull and one in 357 Magnum. I also had problems with loading but I found the answer and it didn't involve any disassembly. When pushing the cartridges in sometimes they will contact the edge of the magazine tube. Just push the rounds in at a downward angle and they slip right in. Also, you can push them in 75% of the way and load the next one and use it to push the previous cartridge all the way in, your last round will be the only one required to push past the loading gate with your thumb. Shortening the mag spring can cause the rounds to bounce under recoil and possibly hammering the bullets into the case deeper if the crimps aren't perfect, pressures would skyrocket.

My .357 was not hard, it was about impossible! What finally fixed it was grinding off a section out of the middle of the loading gate spring. I did shorten the magazine spring a good 3" but the thing that made the difference was the loading gate spring mod. I got this idea from the info from Steve's Gunz. I did not have any trouble like this with an earlier .454 Casull model. It is a plenty accurate rifle and a lot of fun.

The feeding problem is probably because you are completely feeding the round through each time you put one in. You want to leave the round showing with the gate still open after each round is put inside. The very last round is when you fully push the round in and close the gate
@Vincerama5 ай бұрын
100% this! I took my R92 to a Cowboy Action match and I would shove each and every round fully into the rifle when I loaded it. It killed my finger as it grated against the brutally sharp loading gate edges! Then I figure that I can just shove the nose of the round in, such that the rest of the round just took up the space of the loading gate. Then the next round I put in was used to shove in the half loaded round. When I got to the last round, I had a wooden dowel that I glued into a used cartridge case and use that to shove the last round home. The back of a stick pen, or an unsharpened wood pencil does the job just as well!
@megastick93243 ай бұрын
Using the next round to push the previous round I actually thought was common knowledge! Seriously. It’s the way I was taught to load lever guns 50+ yrs ago. Push the round in leaving roughly 1/3 of it outside on the gate, use the next round to do the same until the last, then push that one home. Not only is it easier, it’s a lot faster also.
@benthere404Ай бұрын
@@megastick9324They use junky plastic magazine tube follower which binds making it harder to load, my Henry big boy has plastic follower to which caused unreliable feeding.Henry warrantied it and just replaced plastic follower with stamped metal and alls well.

@@benthere404 yeah, I don’t know when , but pretty much all lever guns went to a plastic follower, which, even if it works well at first, gets crumbly and breaks over time. Thanks to an active after market, metal ones are available for most now. There’s even one for Marlins, maybe others, with a small indentation in the center for using the plastic tipped ammo, like leverevolution, it keeps the tip centered and eliminates the tendency of the rounds to get cocked in the tube causing poor feeding. In my opinion, any gun with the plastic follower needs the fix right out of the box.

I think they make all the springs extremely stiff so you can use the gun as a farm tool for 20 years without cleaning and it will still work. At least that's the only explanation I can think of. You can also grind down the leaf spring of the loading gate itself. I just did and it worked wonders! Just make the leaf spring a good amount slimmer towards the side where it's screwed in and it will bend down way easier. Almost feels like a Miroku Winchester now!

Yes shortening the magazine spring will make it easier to load as there is less force needed to push the cartridge forward but the loading gate itself is too hard to depress which adds to the overal force to needed to load. Would you please show how to fix the actual loading gate? I have heard that it is easy to reduce the amount of tension on the loading gate by either bending the loading gate or by thinning the loading but I have only read about it and have not seen any video's acually showing how to do it. One last step, the loading gate is still too tight causing you to have to fool with poking rounds in part way then forcing them in the rest of the way with a dowel or the next round etc. The loading gate spring itself is much too strong. With a Dremel cut away 2/3 of it's width taking 1/3 off each edge, it won't matter how sharp the edges of the loading port are once you can gently slide ammo through the gate and 1/3 of it's original width is more than enough to bring the gate back into closed position....which is all it does.

Normally i would absolutely agree, but if they are using the same spring for the 24", 20", and 16", it makes sense. I cut mine down about 3" and it feeds awesome and loads great. I haven't found the need for a plug though, it sorta just seems to stop after the 10th round with the .357 but other than that it cycles fast and smooth. I did do the extractor spring replacement and used 600 then 1000 grit on the surfaces of the internal mating parts, then wiped them all with synthetic moly grease, let it sit overnight and wiped them all down put everything together and work it all hundreds of cycles. did the break initially without lubing it to find the wear points, that helped identify where to spend time polishing it up. But man, its super slick now and so smooth to operate its crazy. the trigger is about a smidge over 3lbs pull now as well. I just polished everything that the trigger touches and moly'd that up as well. With a little friction moly gets into the metal and really impregnates it. you can wipe off all the excess, but it still stays in there and stays pretty slick.

You. Should always count your rounds … #justsaying
@Jaybird-oo3ih2 жыл бұрын
You don’t stick your finger inside the load gate for one you push the round 3/4 of the way in and use the next round to seat the previous into the magazine. When new load it up and let it sit for a couple days and then cycle them out reload them again and it should be easier and you should be able to load it up fully. Let it sit fully loaded for a day or two then cycle the full magazine out. You have to use it to break in the magazine springs. I have a brand new m 92 and I never had any issues with loading the 10 rounds in it. There’s a break in period for these things. You don’t just start tearing your gun apart changing stuff. Mine is like butter and yeah if you stick your finger all the way inside the loading gate you’ll likely see blood trying to load that way. 🙄

Then how do you load the last round? You have to stick your thumb in at least once! I had my R92 for almost two years and about 1500 rounds, waiting for the break-in to happen. It did smooth up a little, but the springs were still way too strong. All of them! In the meantime I've tried other lever actions like Uberti, Miroku Winchester and Marlin and they were all much smoother and faster to load, and they don't eject brass like projectiles. Rossi factory springs are just insane, all of them.

So he skips how to remove the magazine spring cap??????
@PoindexterTactical2 жыл бұрын
I guess I didn’t go over that. I have it in the disassembly video and didn’t think about putting it here. More or less you just unscrew the screw on the bottom of the mag tube below the cap. Keep a finger on the cap as it’s under spring pressure and could fly across the room. If it doesn’t come free easily, stick a punch or an Allen wrench inside the screw hole and slowly work it forward.

I’m in no way trying to be offensive but I would recommend just leaving your gun stock. I had a neighbor take a perfectly perfect Glock 19 and dork it up so bad with “upgrades” that it was a pile of garbage. Guys, seriously, just stop doing “fixes” unless it’s absolutely necessary.
@PoindexterTactical2 жыл бұрын
It's literally just cutting a spring and making a plastic plug. Stock springs are readily available, so it's not like I'm "dorking" it up beyond repair. The only reason I recommend this is because it's a small modification to an easily replaceable and inexpensive part.
@HRML8132 жыл бұрын
@@PoindexterTactical I understand what you’re saying, however, like you said, now you always have to count how many rounds you’re loading or else you get the last round jammed up. I’m not saying you broke your rifle or anything, I just don’t see the need.
@marklee82262 жыл бұрын
It's not hard to load just use the next round to push it in .
@maximilianmustermann57632 жыл бұрын
It's still very hard to load because the loading gate leaf spring and the magazine tube spring are way too strong. You can modify both and end up with a loading gate that feels like the loading gate of a Miroku Winchester (sans the nicer rounded edges in the Winchester)
@MikeRedden-j4m7 ай бұрын
You dont put the round all the way in. You leave a small portion of the bullet out and push it in with the next one and if it still hurts your finger just ask an older MAN how to load a lever action rifle. I used one all my life and know what I’m talking about and use a rossi in cowboy action shooting.

Some of us have sore fingers already from doing manly work all our lives and don't want more pain....... Doing a lot of shooting competitions can mean having to load a lot of guns and magazines.

Yes thats what I do, cowboy action shooting with a rossi mod 92 just ask an old timer how to load a lever action rifle.

Not a Rossi, they don’t have gold bands.
@PoindexterTactical3 жыл бұрын
Rossi has this exact model, with the gold bands, listed on their website.
