Lots of the problems with traffic around the airport are because you have connected the internal airport roads to the external road system, It should not be connected at all, it only makes this mess. The intention is to have all of the external traffic go through the two points in the main cargo terminal but I don't think the external (to the airport) road connection is what is causing the traffic problems. There are two rail lines that Biffa set up to the airport cargo rail terminal. One was to the internal rail network and the other was to the intercity rail network. It was the intercity rail network that was causing all of the problems as businesses were using it to export goods. That was causing the traffic problems. With the test of the rail terminal outside of the airport and the non-airport DLC rail terminal inside the airport grounds, only the internal rail network was connected and goods were being delivered to be transferred to aircraft (at least in the second case). If Biffa tested a single line with it being the intercity rail then I'm sure that the traffic problems would exist again. There isn't much around the airport to deliver goods to it by truck whereas everything further it is faster for goods to be transferred by rail. When both lines were connected any trucks taking goods from the rail terminal were caught in traffic so that's why there were few trucks delivering goods to the airport.
@j_si.81872 жыл бұрын
In the last Episode, you blocked the Trucks from turning left, after leaving the cargotrainstation. So they are forced to go the big crossing to get to the Airfield. In the last Episode you have taken out the roundabout, because of the Trucks plugin it up. But they only plugged up cause they couldnt take the leftturn. And so they go through the roundabout, but then they dont drive up to the nice setup, since the way through the roundabout is shorter. Edit:sry Bad english, but i hope you get my point. XD

Isn't the airport cargo is supposed to be used internally in an airport area without outside road? I mean like road->cargo airport->cargo airport road->airport cargo train station, so the internal airport road isn't connected with standard roads? So the terminal became the buffer for cargo trucks (for example the zooming trucks at 24:38, 24:59 or 28:07) and the cargo train station became the buffer for trains. You can see this became a problem also because you set the roads to the cargo station and cargo airport terminal in parallel without the ability to directly turn to the terminal so the trucks took the long way round to the airplane stand such as at 30:45. This can be avoided if, once again, you place the station inside the airport and cut the connection of airport cargo roads to the standard road network. I think that's worked for me and it was also modded, but CMIIW, gonna go check after I'm home Tl:dr, the problems is perhaps caused by you connected the cargo airport roads to standard roads and placing airport cargo train station outside inner airport roads, biffa. This was exactly what I had every single time in Cities Skyline. When the population exceeding certain amount (sometimes >80,000, the most 150,000), and if an inter-cities Cargo station with more than 1 means of transportation exist in the city, the traffic generated by the Cargo station would block the whole city, and cause city failed to function at all. One track+train, track+air or track+ship is still fine, at least by doing tricks on traffic, using mods to limit inter-cities traffic and better road hierarchy, can still limit the area affected. For any cargo station with inter-cities connection, the road connected to the station need to be connected directly to highway, and not to any main or sub-road, then the traffic generated will still be manageable. Any asset of cargo station with more than 1 means of transport, i.e. track+train+air, the traffic generated will eventually become not manageable, end up causing death and recover only when population falls back to below 50K. That's the reason not playing Cities Skyline anymore recently, at least not before any solution found to get this problem fix. (And hence don't really think the new airport extension is meaningful by any means. The game itself not really able to handle population more than 100K).

My guess for situation at 42:45 where they don't use the slip lane is that the game is giving that road only access to the right lane and most of them seem to go to the left lane. 1) Can't believe I've watched a whole Biffa episode where a roundabout would have solved all the problems and it wasn't built! 2) I'm almost positive that the "airport cargo station" is actually a way for both trucks and trains to drop off cargo, teleporting into the plane stands. So it's a quicker way for them to dump their goods than driving all the way to the plane stands. 3) That long main building doesn't seem to be used for drop off AT ALL, it's just the main building for city services to use, so I don't think you're ever going to see much traffic taking that side of the fork

A tip, though, to help your traffic throughput at cargo stations, warehouses, etc. See how many entrances there are to the facility (for example, that cargo statio has four available, since the orange truck looks like a static prop) then use Building Spawn Points to set UNspawn points at three of them, and a spawn point at the last one. That way, you will get three times the throughput without creating any congestion within the facility itself.

The Ship/train hubs are probably the toughest - you just can't stop that traffic, you can only spread it out. And Bypass-roads are your best friends in many cases (you just don't want all those trucks moving through your cities if they don't have to). My setups are usually a little on the 'spaghetti' looking side, but every single road is used. All that being said, I have learned a tremendous amount from Biffa's videos.

Agree with you on the Air Cargo Train Terminal issue (full vanilla, no mods). Had a very similar problem a couple of weeks ago. Inexplicably EVERYTHING was being delivered there, regardless of convenience or logic. I had a thriving, successful oil import industry with a normal rail cargo terminal a couple of blocks south of the industry area. This had been running swimmingly for days (years in-game) with minimal attention. Oil comes in by train, then drives north to oil storage facilities. Simples. Then I built a cargo airport. Big mistake. Suddenly all my oil imports were being flown in and having to commute three full tiles down my map, and they were driving 3 tiles south rather than using my internal rail network (which obviously I'd connected to the airport cargo rail terminal) to get it to the regular cargo station just south of the industry. Trains were coming in to the ACTT, but never leaving. Nothing worked. Not only that but it completely tanked my oil industry. None of my oil storage would refill. Left it to run for a couple of hours and they emptied completely and not a single one received a delivery, despite all being set to "fill" or "balanced". Oil was *occasionally* making it as far as one of the plastics plants if I was lucky. After deleting the cargo terminal ("I'll walk slowly away and come back to that") I noticed even then that my oil storage was not being filled. Another hour or two later after deleting it there was still nothing in them. It wasn't until I deleted the storage units and rebuilt it that they started refilling again, and they were all at 100% within about 15 mins. Admittedly the traffic took a hit for that period, but they still filled. I think there's definitely something hinky in the DLC. I'll be the first to admit I'm not an expert in these things and can only report on observed behaviour - the comments about not connecting the ACTT to the road network seem to make sense in some ways so when I next have a bash at the Cargo terminal I'll try it, but none of it explains the weighting we've seen and the fact that it broke other assets' functionality. Sorry for the long rambling note - I feel kinda vindicated because I thought I was going mad. Glad it's not just me having issues. Here's to another great vid *raises mug of Yorkshire*

There's a glitch (unexpected behavior?) right now where if you use a cargo airport train station outside of an airport area, it is way more "attractive" than it should be, and so vehicles will go WAAAY out of their way to utilize it. I noticed at 2:10 a lot of the trucks heading for the train station are actually coming from the airport. If you had connected the airport cargo train station DIRECTLY to the cargo airport, it would use internal roads from the aiport to the train station (and you should also remove the connection you have connecting "internal" airport roads to external ones, like other comments suggested - except at the front entrance), you would give trucks importing goods from the airport into the city a direct way to get to the cargo train station - which would ease the load on the input roads from the highway. Unrelated - you have an elevated interchange, you don't need to bury the tunnels cutting across it!

@24:30 So, if the car has spawned and is on the road, it has a job to do. If you turn the warehouse off while the vehicle is in route, it'll still do what it was told to do when it spawned. The cars going into the warehouse @24:35 were already on the map when you turned it off. When all the vehicles that were told to go to that warehouse, before you turned it off, have gone to that warehouse, vehicles will stop going to the warehouse until you turn it back on. It's like turning the water off on a garden hose, even though the water is off, you'll still have water coming out the end until the hose has drained.

8:40 As the ingame tool showed all private cars used the slip road and then roundabout to get up to the mountain road SO, what Biffa could do is connect that slip road underneath the junction directly to the mountain road ..... Let's un pauze and See what Biffa will do !!

i had a similar issue in a game when industries first came out. everyone ignored the terminal closest to the old industry (nearest my outside connections) and made a mess with the new terminal closest to my new farming industry... i even tried to place a second terminal to be a more direct route and they just did not care at all... they just HAD to use that new fancy station!

Not the only Cities Skylines player to do this but alot of people are seemingly misusing the Cargo Airport train station. The pull of the Cargo Airport train station is huge I'm guessing it's so that Planes, Trains and Ships will spawn to meet it's requirements but currently as you say it's pulling trucks from everywhere. So you need to keep the Cargo Airport train station separate from main road access and let the planes and a closed airport road run the imports and exports from the Airport directly to your Cargo Trains which supplies the external Cargo Train stations which are supplied by Trucks.

Biffaaa. ⭐️ Your videos are the only dose of Cities: Skyline I have anymore. I use to have the FULL game, with dlcs, assists and mods on a very decent computer … but having to leave my abusive ex for a better, healthier life also meant leaving ALL of that behind. 😣 And I miss it so much. Trying to sell my bike so I can get another computer but it’s hard.

I have an idea you could try on the Airport cargo train station. I think that the only entrance and exit to the airport grounds should be the Cargo Airport gate. I think the gate will block traffic in the city from using the Airport cargo train station. The only trucks that should come in the Airport gates are trucks going to the Airplane stands for export on the planes. The cargo the airplanes bring in is sent from the stand to the now isolated Airport cargo train station for delivery around the city. That is what you were seeing when you noticed they were only intercity trains. Some trucks might leave the Airport grounds via the gate as well but I'll bet a lot send it on the trains. Might be something to try.

What about connecting the air cargo train station directly to the airport terminal roads and not have an outside connection directly to the terminal roads and have all traffic feed the cargo terminal itself. That way maybe the other industry’s will feed the train stations around the city and then to the airport via train or vice versa.
@m_8_c202 жыл бұрын
I think airport train cargo is weighted to attract vehicles so cargo from planes goes straight to the rail network instead of going onto the road. The problem is you're mixing your airport and general traffic, if you put the airport train cargo station behind the airport cargo gate line and disconnect the internal airport road network from your general road network it should work okay.

Seems like the Airport Railway works best when it's connected to an internal street network to the Cargo Airport. Then the trucks can only pickup & drop off between the two locations. That's why it acts like it's weighted to suck in all cargo. So the cargo transfers are forced between the two buildings.
@jeffsmarques12 жыл бұрын
actually the new cargo train station of the airports dlc was made to be put inside the cargo airport, in these new roads that came with the airport, these roads work like the concourse(i don't know if this is the name) of the passenger airport, you use to conect new stands and the new cargo train station. these roads shouldn't be conected with your city network, because you want the cargo to go to the aiport terminal and then go to the airplanes. this new cargo train station works like a buffer, so the cargo can come in and out of the aiport more easyly.
@macaidwin2 жыл бұрын
It's like the airport cargo station is sucking all the cargo from all over the city. I replaced such a very busy airport cargo station for a normal dual track cargo station and the cargo spreaded more to the other stations. I even connected the airports cargo station with a road straight to a cargo stand with no other options. The cargo went from or to the cargo train via a plane, the plane just taxied from one stand to another to drop of the load. 😂
@501Mobius2 жыл бұрын
Now that you solved the railroad terminal problem you probably don't need those loops at the end of the access road. Trucks can just turn left from the access road to enter the terminal at their entrances. Plus the bus stop that you built a little road get the buses from blocking the entrance to the parking area. You could of just moved it the other side of the entrance.
@MatthewFutrell2 жыл бұрын
The roundabout at 42:30 the small sliver of road between the roundabout and the bypass is speed limit 60, which is higher than the bypass which is 50. Not sure if that small sliver of road is making them ignore the bypass but it could be the reason. If you pause at 43:00 you'll see what I mean.
@Everie2 жыл бұрын
You should disconnect your Cargo Airport from the city network! And plus, the train should not be connected to the outside because you must serve only the city with the Airport Train Station, if not it'll break the game as it has done before!

@15:34 you explain about the updated version of a Mod. Have you seen the option to put on to use preferabl other than road to export for Cargo? meybe that helps a bit. Just try and see it the export is spreding more for ships to.

Odd the trucks drive across the city to the intercity RR. They probably drove right past where the cargo will ultimately be delivered.

Now replace the little cargo train terminal to the side with the Airport station (since you can place it anywhere) and see if it spawns massive amounts of traffic.

Hey Biffa, Big fan, thank you for all the videos. helped a lot over the last few months. I found if you have the new "airport cargo " train station inside your cargo airport not outside helps a bit. I have one attached to the cargo airport road. FYI I'm not on a pc, so no mods or anything and the only traffic I struggle with is actual plane traffic coming into the cargo airport.
@vaishnavmhetre90612 жыл бұрын
Instead of the train station opposite to cargo airport, keep the one which is directly connected to highway. Reason being the big 4way junction piles up the issue. Better off, have it on seperate line so the traffic easily breathes away to highway and finds another route...
@gyngertano54092 жыл бұрын
I have my cargo airport roads connected in a few different places but the train terminal was "behind" the main entrance as such. You want it to be used more as from the airport straight to train, and not people coming from the outside to use it, with no intention of it leaving the city by plane. I have 2 other regular cargo train stations quite close by, and it all seems to be fine. No one was favouring the airport one.

at 30:57 where you put the line markings in you have done it as pavement. the cars coming from the right drive over it to get to the lanes on the left and the ones coming from the left and needing to go to the top road also drive over it. They should have been dotted lines to start with to show those cars staying in there lane and then the final little bit that is created between the top and bottom is where you fill it in.

@bobblebardsley2 жыл бұрын
You can see at 31:07 the lanes are connected correctly, just the intersection marking tool and that central triangle/median are wrong, so it shouldn't affect the traffic, they'll obey the lane connectors over the intersection markings.

Trucks driving all the way across the map for a train station is super frustrating. Sometimes adding a train station breaks the whole import/export balance you've made.

I would just get rid of that cargo train hub near the Airport. Seems to be really screwing up pathfinding somehow. Cims shouldn't be travelling over the whole city, to use an internal train network to go back where they came from? Also if you got rid of it, then the Cargo Airport might actually get some use... At the moment its a huge white elephant and wasting the point of the new DLC ://

I had the same problem with a cargo train. It was unimaginable amount of traffic. I then built a similar city just vanilla and the traffic wasn't bad. There is a bug or something with cargo. When you turn it off cars and trucks eventually stop but any traffic left in the city continues to use it.
@geronimo85532 жыл бұрын
Vanilla have always turned despawn on, so if the game notice that the cars/trucks are waiting to long, it just let them disappear. Biffa use Traffic manager with despa wn turned of. And then you get this real traffic nightmare with cargo and other stuff.

Hi ... 26:14 This strict separation of internal and external rail is somehow bugging me. Is this just here or did you completely split outside rail connections and internal rail network? If yes, maybe the double track airport cargo rail station just cannot handover good from external trains to internal ones and vice versa ... 29:08 These left turns might not be necessary if you connect the cargo railway station more directly to the cargo airport bypassing this junction. 31:10 Lane connectors and lane markings are telling two completely different and contradicting stories. I side with the connectors. 38:53 The easiest solution would have been banning cars and trucks from that lane with vehicle restrictions - that way the won't even try to get in the lane blocked by the bus stop.
@jackson31902 жыл бұрын
I would suggest having the train network disconnected from the road network, as only stuff that can go in or out of the airport comes through that train station, and trucks half to use other train stations that are closer to where they come from.

Material management could be better in this game. On 1 hand I have a massive amount of production, on the other I have factories that don't get materials delivered. I even have freight-only railroads, with an airport and docks too. I noticed it helps a lot to have some storage close to your factory, but that shouldn't be necessary.
