Not particularly fond of him myself, though I wouldn't say I outright dislike him-- we just have a clash of interests (and by that I mean he's a Jock villager who's constantly talking about his muscles and working out, neither of which I'm remotely interested in).

it frustrates me to see characters that have actual concepts behind their designs be called ugly in the same vein as Moose or Rodney. Like, you can't call Pietro ugly and also Rodney ugly. Pietro has a concept, he's a clown. Bella is goth, Eugene is a greaser, Stitches is a stuffed animal. Rodney they just picked some random colours, slapped them on, and called it a day. Some of the best animal crossing villagers may not be conventionally "cute" but are by far the best because they have designs that are unique and more than just, "I don't know I had already made 7 other villagers and I was tired of how much effort it takes to make them so I picked some colours and called it a day." Also 10/10 for terrifying Stitches that looks like you shoved human eyeballs into a stuffed animal.

Moose has always been an interesting villager to me. He seems to be inspired by Lupin the Third (mutton chops, raised eyebrow, Japanese name is Pin, and some other minor details), but parts of his design don't fit the theme, so that gets overlooked. He is just a blue mouse who is vaguely inspired by an old anime character, which I think is cool, but a little unsatisfying.

In New Horinzons, I believe that's what the villagers have boiled down to in these games. Nothing but the looks seems to be what makes people want them on their island. In the first game they had actual personalities, like and dislikes, quirks which made them different from the rest. They could get mad at you, like absolutely pissed if you annoyed them to much. Some even insulted you on a regular basis. Now, most people like the ones like Barold and go for those who they like the best, but honestly, I do the same

This is my #1 gripe with NH. In older games, they had so much personality that you get a villager that looked "ugly" and end up loving them. In NH, I had Gaston move in and was a bit upset bc he seemed ugly to me, but his grandpa personality made him one of my favorites. Thing is, every other "cranky" villager talks just like him. He lost his charm because of that.
