Top tip: if a joystick works, in the mouse port (use ATK), but a mouse doesn't, the 5v is missing. Joystick shorts the direction pins to ground, mouse needs 5v for the encoder ic :)

Thanks for the tip! =D

Paula reads the analog paddle inputs, just like the SID on the C64/128 does. The LS157 you replaced multiplexes the joystick lines on each port down to two signals per port in sync with CCK (colorburst clock). This is done because of how the mouse encodes H/V movement on the 4 direction lines. Denise decodes this and updates counters. That means to read it as a joystick you have to do some funky math on the counter bits. Left mouse button/Joystick fire is on a CIA, Right/2nd fire button (and Middle/3rd) short the paddle lines so you read them from Paula. You can tell they did it that way to keep the ports 100% compatible with C64/Atari joysticks.

Regarding your fuse, have you thought about using a pptc resetable fuse? Saves keep changing them.

Had the same problem on an A2000 mb. Replaced with a poly fuse since I don't know what I did to blow it. The mb was spares/repairs from ebay. The external floppy fuses were blown when I got it. So that's 3 on this mb so far....

There's a mistake at 0:17. You said something about simple fix and really short.😂

You haven't fixed it if you haven't blown up stuff 😂

What?? Here all this time I thought “fixing” things MEANT “blow it up.”! 🤣😆😂

I wonder if there are a re-settable version of that fuse available? Might be interesting if there is one to see how useful and cost effective it might be? 😀

Yes, I could have fitted a poly fuse! I just preferred to fit what I had, and tbh these fail so very rarely!
