i wouldn’t say red velvet’s “thing” is sinister or darker themes; i’d say their “thing” is the oddity in their themes. when i look at red velvet i see the group that represents k-pop from the view of people who know nothing about kpop but think it’s “weird”. and i LOVE them so much for that oddity. so in my opinion, zimzalabim 100% delivered on their signature. it was fun, it was weird as fvck, and it was so red velvet.

I love Red Velvet’s aesthetic but Zimzalabim missed the mark for the reasons you said 😩. I like that they were trying to be experimental and emulate the chaotic energy of the song but you can’t just slap a bunch of shapes and textures together, it just looked like they fell into a bargain bin. And then there were stage outfits that were honestly underwhelming? Like they just made it asymmetrical or frilly and called it kooky enough. It’s frustrating because you can see what they wanted and there’s times where they almost have it but in the end, it fell flat.

That image taht was first in the video - that line up works for me, even if it’s quite eccentric, but the second one I only like yeri, joy and seulgi’s outfits(and even then they would need modifications). I still like the song and the concept, I just think that they needed some adjustments to make it really work aha

you put everything i thought about zimzalabim into words haha. it could’ve been one of the best styling eras in kpop but the silhouettes 😭😭 one members fit was always sticking out.. the music show backgrounds didn’t help either. everything looked way more chaotic. they still rocked it tho. thank you for the video! for loona, their stylist isn’t the best. i don’t wanna judge because we don’t know the situation there. i think the different concepts could’ve been good, but the clothes just don’t look good? the purpose of promotion styling is to change things up each time. but with some of the concepts it got too repetitive. the white bodysuits got so boring even though the concept was always changing

In interviews, the Loona members said each outfit was supposed to be like different types of parties(for example the western outfits were like Coachella and the formal outfits were just fancy parties/balls) since the mv is supposed to be them celebrating the 12:00 festival. The whole concept of Loona is that all the music videos are a continuation of one story called "the Loonaverse" that fans interpret through watching the music videos in order and reading the youtube descriptions. Well, it's definitely a cool idea it does make the concepts of each music video confusing for anyone who doesn't know just the basic info of what the Loonaverse is. Anyways stream "Paint the Town" ig it just came out today😂

One thing I’ve noticed with Jeongyeon’s outfits is they tend to be very “blocky”. Her legs are the only thing that tend to be on show most of the time but obviously we’ll never know if it’s the stylists or Jeongyeon’s request that her shoulders be covered. I just think they could find a more flattering way to do such outfits if they were.

The shirt that she wore for alcohol free that has sleeves that are similar to lantern sleeve length would’ve worked so much better if it was made out of more flowy material, like why use that rigid fabric? I think the same for the first group, Red Velvet, there are good outfits and it's nice to experiment and I get the concept, but in the end it was too chaotic and some outfits were really unflattering. I really like the outfits of the girl at the left and the girl at the right on the first picture you showed though! As for Twice the purple outfits are so stunning! I only didn't like the silver haired girl's outfits because we see these types of sleeves everywhere and the short haired girl's outfits in the back also looks pretty bad as you said. My favorite outfit must be the one with the huge white boots! I just love these types of clothes so much. It could be super cool to have a video where you talk about your favorite K-pop fashion eras! 😍

i couldn't agree more with your opinions here! except for wendy's green fluffy bag shirt and taeil's red shiny pants. i have a soft spot for feathers, especially if they're bright and colorful, so i can't entirely hate that outfit no matter ho much time passes. maybe if the shape had been a bit more formfitting it would've worked more? or if she had had matching fluffy little sandals to go with it. as for taeil's red shiny pants, i think they're the only shiny pants that worked during firetruck, but i would've preferred that they had been red pleather pants. in fact, i feel that if they switched all those shiny pants to leather/colorful pleather pants the outfits would've worked sooo much better. if they had given mark some electric blue pleather pants instead of those gold ones it would've worked so much better and it works with the colors the rest of the group were sporting. except for haechan's overalls, that outfit was just tragic and didn't work on various levels.

Red Velvet stylists don't know where to draw the line. They always know what direction they're going towards, but sometimes they make the girls look overdressed (Zimzalabim), while other times underdressed (Queendom). They don't know how to diferentiate some comebacks and their silhouettes are not dynamic enough.

To defend the outfit in 16:18, I completely agree with all of your points and that the shorts are boring as hell, but I think the heights of the outer layer and the shorts are complementary and I think keeping the shorts simple and skintight would really help with the movement of the outer layer to guarantee it doesn’t get caught on other parts of the outfit while performing.

The thing about the hairstyle is something I always think about bcs, like the excuse of "ignorance" has long past at this point, and big companies like SM know they have many international fans, and they know there's been so much controversy with cultural appropriation within the west especially, and the kpop industry is one that wants as little scandals and bad press as possible, yet this still happens??? tbh i don't think very short skirts and shorts need to always mean it was done in order to appeal to the "male gaze", honestly sometimes it just looks more flattering to me and makes the legs look longer and more aesthetically nice, it doesn't have to be sexual. but i agree that in the case of momoland, it was done in order for them to be more attractive, since they didn't use the safety shorts and the girls looked uncomfortable with that.
