A handy end to the week.
A few paslodes for repair and service. The Paslode IM360 and IM65 are a repair shops normal bread and butter. But the 18S was a new one for me.
And sure it wouldn't be a normal day without changing a chuck and brush ring and brushes.

Whenever I see a Paslode teardown, I get the feeling that it was designed in an alternative universe. All non-Paslode tools are substantially similar in construction and techniques, but Paslode is different from all of them (e.g. the twist-off ignition unit, ice-cream-bar-shaped battery, weird zig-zaggy cooling fins, free-floating pins, etc.)

I like when companies do this, means they stand by their designs and don't follow stupid trends.

Probably because they were the first to do it and patented a few design details. other brands copied and adjusted to stay above the copyright laws. some improved on the design and some made it worse 😂

Paslode is the original gas gun. Every other brand simply tries to copy it legally. But they are simply not a palsode.

I had a DCN692 with a hidden jam. A small chunk of bent nail was jammed between motor and the housing. It would creak and then flash like that. Left side motor frame was cracked in th 90 bend at the back. Firing pin had had grooves beneath the 'wings'.

Gday Dean what’s going to shite itself first? A gas nail gun or a battery powered one. I know you’ve said stay away from Dewalt as they don’t sell spare parts for the battery powered guns if the motor or trigger or controller decides to die.

Hi Dean, have you repaired any mafell tools before? I have an 18v mafell tracksaw that I accidentally knocked off of a worktop and it sounds like a bag of nails! My local tool repair place has had it for 5 weeks, when I contacted them last week for an update they reckon they were pulling their hair out and couldn't find the issue, still waiting to hear.

First time I see you cut open a chuck on a makita, 99% of the time its a dewalt, matter of fact I never seen you replace a dewalt chuck the normal way.
@deandohertygreaser
@deandohertygreaser 8 ай бұрын
That's because newer dewalt drills don't have a center screw. They are torqued on with lock tight. You can't take them of the normal way. You can either cut them of, ( much faster and safer) or dismantle the gearbox and clamp the spindle directly and use a large wrench to torque it off. But I have twisted and snapped a few spindles this way.

After having watched several of his videos, my guess is that he's going to say: 1. It depends on what kind of work-- e.g., the brands will be different for battery vs. pneumatic (and maybe vs. corded/ mains). 2. Go with a brand that can be serviced where you live (e.g., parts availability). 3. In general: Makita or Bosch. (Other brands are probably fine for specific tools--e.g., Hitachi, DeWalt if you can get parts, Hilti.) That's just my guess. Interested in Dean's reply.
