tommartyn Yea, it’s turning into something that looks like it might toss the older channels out eventually. I keep getting asked to join “RED” and you notice the “paid subscription” tab in creator studios now eh? HMmmmmm.

That's pretty horrible. Well... I guess i gotta keep in mind, youtube was always a business. They only exist to make money, not help people connect with and share videos with other people who want to see it. Its all just to make money.
@JimsEquipmentShed6 жыл бұрын
But they need to keep in mind that you created the content that keeps them alive. Discovery doesn't get "Gold Rush" for free, but youtube got you for free. (At least until the partnership program.) But still, we are the cheapest content providers on the planet.... ;-)

How do you get the aluminum so clean? Cooling fins look spotless.
@tommartyn6 жыл бұрын
Hey man. So I usually just use a hand held wire brush, and it makes them look nicer, but not great. So I thought, hmm, wonder if they make a wire brush sawzall attachment. Went on eBay and found one! Worked awesome. Still took a long time, and the aluminum was in decent shape already on that engine, but I definitely recommend that attachment. It had a dumb name like spyder or something. I just searched for wire brush sawzall.

Didn't they make that 200 ES from 82 to 84? And I do believe that 84 FourTrax 200 use that same engine which was the very first Honda four wheeler which steered horribly
@tommartyn6 жыл бұрын
haha, so, no. The ATC200ES, (as i may have said in the video) is a one year only trike. But you're right! looks like that was the first honda four wheeler. Can't speak to its steering capabilities though. But i have to say, me and mike bought an 87? TRX350FW one time and it had to be 3000 times worse then the TRX200. The four wheel drive thing, can't even begin to explain how much that made steering insufferable. But yeah, the ATC200ES, 1984 only. There was the 2 year ATC200E, from 82-83, the first big red. Electric start, high/low. But didn't have shaft drive or reverse. Thats the ES promise. haha. Yeah, they are all junk. :) Though i'd love an 84 TRX200. Just to try it out.
@lilriggs6 жыл бұрын
They made a 200E in '82 which is the chain driven version of this with no reverse. I had one and it sucked. Fork tubes wollowed out and I had to weld them up solid.
@tommartyn6 жыл бұрын
haha, I did cover the years the 200E was made my reply. Yeah, the forks are horrible. Same forks as on the 200ES. They all fail like that at some point. Luckily brandons aren't to that point yet. I have a set of 83 200 forks, which i offered to brandon if he ever wants them. Its got the normal 200S style design, and they hold up forever. But they are shaped a little different so the racks won't fit on. We could probably modify some stuff though, figure it out.
@lilriggs6 жыл бұрын
ah yeah I was too anxious to say how much I hated my 200E and missed your reply. Man you've seen about every fail point on these things! I'll have to remember that about the 83 200 forks swapping over. I can relate to you a lot dude, I'm 27 and all I really care about are these bastard atc's and enjoying life with good people!

Owww, shit, yeah... probably wanna build up to that kinda thing. Lots of hours on that type of machine first. The 185 engines is basically the same power as the 200S engine. Slightly more low end on the 200S.

Tom question for You! My buddy has a atc200es shaft electric start reverse. The shifting clutch does not release. I've played with the adjustment multiple times going off what the forums say nothing. I've held the shifter up and tried powerbraking and nothing. I think something is unhooked in the case what do you think?
@tommartyn6 жыл бұрын
Hey man :) so, to get the terms right, so we're both sure we are talking about the same thing, there are two clutches in these "Auto-Clutch" machines. There is a completely normal, motorcycle style manual clutch, and additionally a centrifugal clutch that let's go at idle speed, so you can idle in gear. Are you saying the manual clutch isn't separating when you move the shifter?
@1997cr80r6 жыл бұрын
tommartyn yes the auto centrifugal clutch works. The secondary shifting clutch does not release you you gotta have the throttle in the sweat spot to shift. Driving it is like driving a motorcycle without using the clutch shifting and I know that fucks it up. I think something has come apart in the clutch cover not allowing if to release
@tommartyn6 жыл бұрын
OK gotcha. So the actual name of that is the Manual Clutch. In all the Honda service manuals and literature. Yeah, could be a few things. There are springs that take the brunt of the force of your foot depressing the clutch on the shift lever, and what happens without a lot, is the clutch disks get rusted together, with just a tiny bit of rust, from all the creek riding we do. Water finds its way into the oil. So if they sit for a while, they get stuck together. When it happens, we ride around in 1st gear, holding the shifter all the way pulled I'm first, with our foot, and floor it, and let off and floor it and let off, till the manual clutch breaks free. You could have a different issue though, something might be going on with the adjustment bolt. I haven't had it happen with a Honda, but the one auto clutch Yamaha we have had an issue like that. But if you're able totaled the play out of the shifter with the adjuster, then it's working right, and the manual clutch plates are likely just stuck together. Do hi range to try to free them. Wanna put the most force as possible on the manual clutch disks.
@1997cr80r6 жыл бұрын
tommartyn alright we use the shit out of it I've tried that a little bit. Which way do I turn the adjuster then back it off? I've read tighten it and back of off and I've read loosen it and then tighten it a little. Neither work but one way makes the shifter all sloppy

I know they are no good Larry. :) I'm a huge honda trike guy. I'd go as far as to say, the whole 185,200,200E,200ES, and 200M aren't any good. As far as the 200ES, if it weren't for the Hi-Low range, and reverse... There would absolutely be no point in them. The shaft drive is neither here nor there, chain's are great. When the shaft drive stuff wears out, you are out some serious money, and some serious work. All the big tire trikes except the 250ES handle so horribly bad... I can't even get into it. And 200M's... The lowest compression of all the ATC's. As if 7.8:1 wasn't horrible enough, They had to down those to 7.6:1... Thanks honda. Making a bad trike worse.
@86Hilux22R4 жыл бұрын
Hey tom, its been a while! I finally picked up my first atc, Its a 200es. is the shift pattern normally backwards? Neutral is all the way up and fifth is all the way down. The rear brakes dont really work much at all. The adjusters are all the way tight, Im thinking new shoes. How tough of a job is that?
@tommartyn4 жыл бұрын
Hahah, in 1985 Honda switched all their Auto-Clutch machines to ALL upshift. So technically yours has the 'Normal' all down shift pattern that Honda used since the first trike, the US90 that was 1970 I believe. I definitely prefer the all down pattern. So much better for wheelies for some reason. Yeah sounds like you need shoes. I honestly don't remember if I did shoes on Brandon's when I did this. And that's the only 200es I've worked on. It shouldn't be hard though. Have you downloaded the Honda service manual?
@86Hilux22R4 жыл бұрын
@@tommartyn I did find a service manual last night, It looks easy enough to do the shoes. Do you have any tire recommendations? These hold air but theyre just about bald.

@@tommartyn definitely not much mud over here in utah. Lots of dry loose rocks. So I'm just going to be doing some easy trail riding
@tommartyn4 жыл бұрын
If its pretty flat, and not really bumpy, you may want to go with a stiffer, flatter tire. That way you can swing the back end out in the loose stone, and it won't be as tippy. But because there is no rear suspension, if it is bumpy, you may want to go with a more traditional Balloon Knobby style tire. Cheng Shin has a decent style. Definitely absorbs the bumps pretty well. And also remember to keep the air pressure around 2.2-3 psi. The tires are your suspension, and your spine saver. :) haha www.ebay.com/itm/Cheng-Shin-C829-Tire-25x12x9-front-or-rear-TM00572100-25x12-9-TM00572100-68-2425/333795461570?epid=209927346&hash=item4db7c289c2:g:y10AAOSwglZftviX
